Nah, just demonstrating the proper use thereof. There's also [joke] tags, for the comedically minded. Whether or not you're actually funny. These tags really are a good idea.... Tone of voice and intent doesn't translate well in text.
But yes, there is one instance in SP of a burning forest... Handled in a most interesting fashion. But the ability to alter terrain seems to violate KISS and the basic control principle... Unless certain attacks automatically modify certain terrains, which would make these terrains close to useless.... Imagine elves hiding in the forest and being attacked by Orcish Crossbowmen. Forests burn, elves retreat to more forest. Repeat as necessary until forests no longer exist and elves are driven into the mountains to hide. That is an extreme case, I grant you. One entire terrain could be wiped off the map. Fire turns forest to ash, cold turns water to ice, grassland to snow.... Magic doesn't really need the jumpstart this would provide.
However, it could still be a cool effect in a UMC, if someone could put it together.

Yeah, like has been said:
this idea doesn't really fit wesnoth in general,
but it could be part of a really cool scenario.

Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

It's the sort of thing it would be nice to have (flexible) support for in the engine (rather than requiring WML code which-as I understand it - would make the abilty scenario-specific).
This particular use probably isn't appropriate (it essentially cripples the Rebels) but I can see a lot of use for it:
* A unit who turns water into ice (when he ends his turn on it?)
* A 'corrupting' unit who slowly turns the map into swamp.
etc.

I don't think the idea of causing gameplay changes is such a good one, but I have had an idea for some time that if we had a nice particle engine, it'd be nice to make fire attacks actually cause small fires that burn for a while. The effect would be entirely graphical though, no gameplay change.
