Random Creeps on the maps

Post by Lecter »

It would be cool if someone would make a random creeps generator that would randomly select creep, and randomly put them on the map.

A "good" Random Creeps generator would have to consider making random creep points on the map, then <depending on which terrain is the creep point> it would choose a random creep.

Creeps could be Cuttlefishs, Spiders, Ogres, Yeti, even cockatrice!
Creeps wouldnt have the possibility to recruit, and would be the ennemies of every players.

There is 2 reason why the possibility of adding creeps to a normal multiplayer game/map would be fun:
Imprevisibility (particulary good if you play with fog of war)
XP feeding before meeting the other players

Creeps would matter mostly at the start of the game.

Making creep scenarios would be easy, but I mean to have the option of using creeps on the map from the game creating menu, you could use the random creep generator as you use the random map generators.

Am I the only one who thinks this should be added to the FPI?

No. Any moderators reading this?

Lecter, in short answer to your question: this already occurs in some campaign scenarios, but won't be included in multiplayer or as a standard option because (a) players 'milking' monsters for XP distracts from the battle that's supposed to be the game's focus; and (b) monsters could easily cause a battle to unfairly turn against the more deserving player.

I aint saying that a normal game should automaticaly have it.
I'm proposing that people should choose when creating their game whether or not they would play a creep based game.

Of course, if a game was made choosing such option, I dont understand what would be sooo unfair for the pooor player who wouldnt has considered the creep movements on his turn, and who would have dared to join such game.

You would be astonished to see how much custom games of Survivor/Creeps Wars/Dotw/RPG/weird eras games are made.
But those are maps that you need to build 1 time to play.

Its senseless to use a creep generator to make a scenario for a map, just before starting wesnoth, each time you make such thing.
Because then, the creator can see the creeps from the codes, and their position before the game even start, making it unfair for the other players, thus, none will join them. With a random generator that would work ingame, such thing cannot happen.

You can be against it.
I am against it if it would be added to every normal game of Wesnoth.
I had the idea 3 years ago and rejected it before even asking it to the forum.
But now that web multyplaying is on, and that random map generator is made, I think it should be considered to give the hosting-game-players the choice.

But I believe it would be easy to make (at worst case as hard as the map generator).
And easily ignored for those not wanting to create a map with creeps options.
It is like for those not wanting to play on random maps, they ignore them when they make games.
Creeps generator would require parameters too like putting 0 creeps, so you can choose not to put creeps even if you use a creep generator map.

I personally think it is a great idea. In war, your opponents are not the olny factor, their are indeed creeps, even in the vietnam war, with snakes and spiders. You would think there has got to be more creeps in the pre-dark ages where Wesnothian times is in. And it is not like it is a forced thing, where you have to use it every time. But sometimes it would be cool to have this feature. If you and a bunch of friends want to go "questing" you could. and maybe the objective of the game would be to kill the mother creep of all :P But I really like this idea, and it should really be looked into.

Then it's not an idea.

Some maps already have monsters, and no one gave them permission. Code it up and enjoy. Locked.
Hope springs eternal.
