Animal era and factions (this thread has been renamed)

It's not easy creating an entire faction or era. Post your work and collaborate in this forum.

I think the mousling look scary because it has a floppy ear and appears to have lost its other eye in a battle, when in real life the mousling is simply facing straight to the right, the ragged "ear" is a nose, and the other eye is hidden from view. (It took me a good while to notice that fact.) You should try to have the head in a 45-degree angle, because that's standard in Wesnoth, and not show the body straight from the front either.

Hi everyone,

Ok I will remake the mousling and the ratling for that matter.
Sorry to scare you, I am not the best artist, and am not sure how best swivel the mousling's heady and body.

Thanks for opinion, I will take action on it ASAP.

Appleman1234 :)

PS: Lots more work, Lots more fun, come on everyone back to square one (for the art anyways) :D

That's normal. I also decided that my earlier Uridians, the loremasters, are just unacceptable and I have to redo them from scratch.

This is perhaps pathetic, since I never could draw and this
is kinda my first pixeldoodle. Copied the posture and colours
shamelessly from ursulav at deviantART. Seems to suffer from
gigantism.

But if there is any use, feel free.

hello everyone,

imvho Appleman you should focus on the chaotic faction and forget the loyal one (looks more "appealing").

Actually, i was writing something about a Ratskin faction too(wasn't using the term Skaven because it should be copyrighted by Games Workshop), and i was up with this at the moment:

Code: Select all

Ratskin clanrat ---> Ratskin Vermin ---> Ratskin Lord
                                    ---> Ratskin Commander

Ratskin Slinger ---> Ratskin DeadEye ---> Ratskin Gunner
---> Ratskin CutThroat ---> Ratskin Assassin

RatOrc ---> RatOgre

RatSkin Warlock --> Ratskin Seer
                --> Ratskin Warpmutant
just a brief description of the units, i hadn't putted out any numbers tho, was still on the "army conceptualization" phase

Clanrat: Poor Melee, cheap, slightly faster advancement rate
Vermin: Medium Melee, Average price, normal advancement rate
Lord: Good Melee, Poor Missile
Commander: Decent Melee, Poor Missile, Leadership

Slinger: Very Poor Melee, Poor Missile, cheap, fast advancement
DeadEye: Poor Melee, Medium Missile, Avg Price, Normal advancement
Gunner: A slightly Less powerful, but faster version of the Dwarvish DragonGuard
CutThroat: Decent Melee, Skirmisher, slow advancement rate
Assassin: Good Melee, Decent Missile, Skirmisher, Poison

RatOrc: Good Melee, Poor Defence Ratings, Slow
RatOgre: A Stronger Version of the RatOrc

Warlock:Avg Magic Missile, Poor Melee, Slow Advancement rating, Medium Price
Ser:Good Magic Missile, Avg Melee, Cures
WarpMutant: Good Melee, Good Hp, No Missile, Frenzy (it's a warlock whose magic experiments have gone just... err... wrong)

Hope you liked the ideas i am proposing to you, and good luck on your project :)

Hi everyone,

Aleator that mouse looks great, Is it in under GNU GPL, I could so edit that image to make it a Mousling. :)

Or at least use it as a I guideline for any more unit artwork I make. This is just what I was looking for thank you.
imvho Appleman you should focus on the chaotic faction and forget the loyal one (looks more "appealing")
Regard this this faction Ratlings included isn't meant to be all chaotic, as a faction they like elves are nice creatures who don't like to fight and would rather use there skills for other things.

The Ratling Branch is essentially what naughty Young Mice (Mouse Youngster) (I am going to change the name) developed into. As they evovle they gradually grow worse.

I will consider adding some more units (I have been wondering this for a while) to the Ratling Branch however I would not restructure the entire faction to be all Ratling based.

Thanks however for your opinion, explaining why this is so:
I don't want the faction to be evil, I just wanted it to have a few shady characthers. I do realise that numerous people relate better to an all chaotic rat based faction with names and units like yours.

And I didn't want to put Orc related stuff in this faction, it is a faction by itself and doesn't need Orc support.

However the current faction structure give or take a few chaotic units is probably going to stick. (unless someone else improves it alot)

Thanks for your ideas and opinions and time

REDWALLLLL!!!!!!! :P

You shouldn't make a plain mouse faction and a plain rat faction. A faction of mice, squirrels, and moles against an alliance of rats, weasels, cats, etc, would be much more interesting. You don't have to base it on the alignment of creatures according to Redwall, but I DO encourage you to use multiple types of creatures per faction.
For I am Turin Turambar - Master of Doom, by doom mastered. On permanent Wesbreak. Will not respond to private messages. Sorry!
And I hate stupid people.

badgers and wolverines...
I was going to suggest that, but it seemed derailing

Hi everyone,

Redwall never heard of it ???
I didn't really want to mix races, but I could make other factions with the animals you mentioned later (much later) in order to have some races to fight againist.

Thanks Turin :)

Appleman1234 :)

PS: Badgers along with the other animals I'd consider for another faction, wolves maybe, but not wolverines. This is beggeninng to remind me of Farthing Wood, next someone will want Fox, Owl and Toadie :P

PPS: Please try to keep on topic, As soon I say
However the current faction structure give or take a few chaotic units is probably going to stick. (unless someone else improves it alot)
Everyone starts listing units they want included.

Good idea Turin.

I never posted on forums regarding rat factions before or else I would be going against this rule in the idea forums,
Stating that one does not like an idea, or making general criticisms of ideas (including subtle mocking by posting ridiculous extensions to the idea in an attempted reductio ad absurdum), is not acceptable in this forum.
The reason being that I think that rat factions simply don't fit into the universe of Wesnoth well at all. However, with Turin's idea they would be a separate universe all their own. That I support.
In summation, you're wrong.

Hi everyone
:? :? Maybe I am cursed, Just seen red wall, it is very Farthing Woodish. I don't know what do to know. Whether to stick to my guns and make (slave over) this faction and suffer the ignorance and criticism of my fellow wesnoth users.

Or to follow Turin's Idea, which I was kind of thinking about prior to my choice of this faction. (I had at least 14 different faction ideas).

Now not only am I overwhelmed by all the work I must do, I am so confused as to was I should do ? :? :?

Appleman1234 :?

PS: If this change does happen, do I get someone to rename this post or should I start a new one ??

all of them should be enslaved by the cruel Ratmen! That would be a nice explanation for various disparate kinds of creatures in the same faction...
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.
