Yup, it's the infamous timing issue. You're right, removing a frame in the gif does the trick, although it actually lowers the quality of the animation.

Ok we had enough of the spearman and the impaler, don't you think? Let them rest in peace!

Here's my new baby, the brand new goblin rouser attack. I just started it so I'm open to suggestions about the way the animation should continue (or not), and any fixes/changes you'd like to see.

btw, am I the only fool working on these things? :? I know it's just a hobbie and I do it 'couse I want to, but c'mon people!

Well, the flag should fall when the spear is returning to the original position. Right now, the flag looks like it is made out of wood.

Oh! Thats Just cool! I would say it is not good if it was human, but as orc it's the best!
Darkness beyond twilight,
More crimson than the blood that flows,
Lost in the depths of time,
I call upon thy name!

Well, there is no 'returning to the original position frame' yet, the silly gif just happens to loop without my permission 8)

I am working on the orc archer ones, but my progress is slow because of annoying things, like school, and less annoying things like having promised people to be doing to many things and doing my campaign. Fitting these around a seamingly endless stream of essays from my annoying teachers isn't the easiest thing in the world.

and in the christmas holidays when I had plently of free time I was almost the only guy doing these too, don't worry. (and Jetrly & Co is always doing more, just behind the scenes)

BTW, don't forget to do all the attack animations for the other goblins, and the ranged (on those that have them)

Old guy with stick..... take 3.

Added a couple frames (11 total now) and tried to smooth things out a bit.

comments welcome. If this one is good then I'll post all the .png frames.

Few last frames(returning to base frame) look odd, rest is nice. :)

I like it. The old man looks clumsy enough in his lousy Conan-wannabe attempt at melee.

For those who think that a mage wouldn't have the strength to swing a staff above his head, you should remember that in desperate moments people get extra strength from the adrenaline rush... and a mage is always desperate if he needs to resort to melee fighting :D

They're already done... Maybe I could add a frame or two to the existing ones, but goblins are VERY weak units, I don't think their attack deserves so much attention, and there's not much room for improvement IMO, at least not for the spearmen... You'll see them dying more often than attacking

Ok here's the rouser attack. I had to modify the shape of the spike on top of his spear/flag, so his attack is still a PIERCING one as described on his cfg. Credit also goes to the creator of the previous gob rouser attack ani, since I used the second pic as the last frame of mine (after a few minor modifications).

This may not be a particulary effective way to use a spear, but it's an impressive one and should inspire all the other little coward goblins to keep fighting, which is what the rouser is all about in the first place, if I'm not mistaken.

Fixes, changes, opinions and suggestions are welcome, as usual.

Coming soon: goblin rouser death

I don't know... there's something funky about it. I think because he is only using one hand. I doubt he could get that kind of force behind it with only one hand. He is a small guy and it's a good sized spear, after all. Also, in game I think it will look a little strange if he jumps backward while swinging the spear.

just my 2 cents

The spear gets blurred (probably because it's rotated in a gfx program which blurs when you rotate), but otherwise I think that's exactly what I would expect from a goblin. If the jump backwards is made to occur after the strike when he's gliding back to his hex, it'll probably fit in nicely.

The white mage melee animation is also great, IMHO. Just need to add a proper shadow.

Excellent suggestion, thanks.
