Thanks for the encouragement!

Also, I should specify that when they get capped it level 2, it really is "2.5"; that is, they'll be more powerful than ordinary level 2's, kind of like the "0.5" units in the Lavinian Legion.

Hm... art is a tough part. Perhaps Temuchin should try his hand at it. That would be interesting. ;)

Yeah, that would be interesting.

Still, I'll have a lot more free time on my hands after Saturday, so maybe I could find the time to learn pixel art.

I have a Mac OSX 10.2.8. What sort of art program would be good with that and where would I find it?

OK, I guess these guys are mine now... I'm going to work on them until I get reference images for the Aiyira. Or until I get bored. Or something. My hope is that if I complete all of the level 1 and level 0 images (probably ripping a lot of stuff from the Lavinians while I'm at it), someone else can make the levels 2 and 3...

Wow. Haven't posted on the Wesnoth forums in a while. Anyway, I still get a notice if my posts get a response!

Do the level 0's and level 1's and you're already half done -- remember, I decided in the end that the gladiator Orcs should probably be capped at level 2 (really "2.5"). Level 3's, I decided, would not be in the spirit of the Roman arena. They liked variety and exitement -- and besides, any gladiator successful enough to become level 3 would probably have won his freedom by then!

Here's the advancement tree in its most recent form:

Code: Select all

Orcish Pugnator -- unarmored; club (high damage, low reps) & whip (melee impact, low damage, high reps)
-> Orcish Paegniarius -- whip (gains marksman) & club; gains shield (strapped to arm)
-> Orcish Bestiarius -- unarmored; whip (gains marksman) & spear, loses club

Orcish Gallus -- longsword, helmet, no shield
-> Orcish Murmillo -- longsword (high damage, low reps), helmet with face guard, shield, gains charge (blade)
-> Orcish Provocator -- longsword (gains marksman), breastplate, helmet, shield
-> Orcish Dimacherius -- two swords (high damage, high reps), but low resistances, no helmet, no shield, no armor

Orcish Samnis -- short sword (low damage, high reps), helmet, shield
-> Orcish Hoplomachus -- short sword, breastplate, helmet, shield, gets better resistances, gains spear
-> Orcish Secutor -- short sword (gains marksman), helmet with face guard, shield
-> Orcish Thraex -- sickle-sword (medium reps, medium damage), helmet, shield; no special abilities or additional armor, but greater speed.

Goblin Piscator -- unarmored; net (ranged impact, slow, low damage, high reps) & trident; scout line
-> Goblin Retiarius -- gains dagger (low damage, low reps) and shoulder guard, gains skirmisher; otherwise like Piscator
-> Goblin Laquerius -- has lasso (ranged impact, slow, low damage, high reps) rather than net, has lance (firststrike) rather than trident, unarmored

Goblin Latronis -> Goblin Venator -- archer line
-> Goblin Essedarius -- archer in fox-drawn chariot; faster, but not as good on defense
And feel free to take over. I've been caught up in other things.

I just thought I'd add that, as far as I'm concerned, there might as well not be any level 0 units -- just level 1's and level 2's.

Still, if people think the lowest level units of the two goblin lines should be level 0, I won't object.

You might be amused when you look around the forums and see how much Cuyo and I have been missing you, Temuchin. Welcome back.

I was looking at this, and decided one or two adjustments were in order, particularly to the Goblin Piscator line.

Code: Select all

Orcish Pugnator -- unarmored; club (high damage, low reps) & whip (melee impact, low damage, high reps)
-> Orcish Paegniarius -- whip (gains marksman) & club; gains shield (strapped to arm)
-> Orcish Bestiarius -- unarmored; whip (gains marksman) & spear, loses club

Orcish Gallus -- longsword (high damage, low reps), helmet, no shield
-> Orcish Murmillo -- longsword, helmet with face guard, shield, gains charge (blade) in addition to normal blade attack
-> Orcish Provocator -- longsword (gains marksman), breastplate, helmet, shield
-> Orcish Dimacherius -- two swords (high damage, high reps), but low resistances (for a lvl 2), no helmet, no shield, no armor

Orcish Samnis -- short sword (low damage, high reps), helmet, shield
-> Orcish Hoplomachus -- short sword, breastplate, helmet, shield, gets better resistances, gains spear
-> Orcish Secutor -- short sword (gains marksman), helmet with face guard, shield
-> Orcish Thraex -- sickle-sword (medium reps, medium damage), helmet, shield; no special abilities or additional armor, but greater speed.

Goblin Piscator -- unarmored; net (ranged impact, slow, low damage, low reps) & trident (melee pierce, high damage, low reps); scout line
-> Goblin Retiarius -- gains dagger (low damage, low reps) and shoulder guard, gains skirmisher; net given iron studs to deal more damage

Re: Chariots

Post by Roque »

Traditional chariots won't work, so just rethink them, use something called Lemures Equus Plaustrum a "ghost horse chariot".

A chariot drawn by a white ball of ectoplasmic energy which is actually the spirit of a dead horse bound by necromancy to a specific chariot, that would easily fit within the horse square.

Not sure what works better, plaustrum or chariot. Or if "ghost chariot" and "ghost charioteer" works in a sentence.

I don't think of the Orces Gentorum as particularly necromantic...

Or magical...

They usually leave that to their undead counterparts, they prefer brutish combat.
