World Geography and History

Post by Keelta MacRonan »

Wesnoth world geography seems to be very chaotic. No one has a clear outline of the world image from what I can tell. The Wiki does not have very good information on this topic. I know that much of it is left open for people to imagine, but it might be nice to at least make a general idea.

Turlin was making one, although he was generally leaving many blanc spaces for expansion by campaign and faction designers.

There is a thread which I think is in the ideas forum, but I am not sure.

I'm semi-officially in charge of the Wesnoth world geography (and history). Basically, I saw that no one was maintaining it or anything, and took it over. I have a quite clear image of the world map, and the civilizations on it, and some other stuff, but haven't updated the wiki for a while.

Did you have a specific question, or were you just commenting on the general inadequacy of our info? If the second, I'm working on it.

We need to find out where other civilisations are on the wesnoth planet.

There aren't any, untill you make them.

I needed a country which was not wesnoth, but would come into contact with wesnoth in my campaign, so I made one and tried to find somewhere for it to fit in.

There is no specified land outside of wesnoth untill it is put in a campaign.

Well, at least that is my understanding of it. :D

Yeah, I was commmenting on the second. Apologies if I was a bit rude. I didn't know you were working on it so I was actually trying to suggest that a couple people work together on it.

Not at all... it's perfectly understandable that few would really know much about Wesnoth's geography. However, I have a map drawn up, and I'll post it soon.

What the heck. Here's my preliminary map... I may be missing a few factions. I also intentionally excluded a few factions, like the Aragwaithi and Akladians, because I don't know where they belong.

Edit: For example, I forgot to put the Clans (which are separate from Wesnoth) on. They are located in the north-east of Wesnoth, between the hills and the river. I also forgot the mountain range that Gryphon Mountain is in. Oh well. Next draft.

Does this mean the Wesfolk were originally Greek?

In campaigns, there are several different periods. Wesfolk is old, but UtBS is in the future (IIRC)

I'm currently working on a map that would roughly estimate the area to the South-East of the current map edge as I envision it. I'll definitely leave room for future growth as the same has been done for me.

I'll upload it when I finish it to my satisfaction.
