Ghosts to pass through walls?

Post by irrevenant »

Idea: The Ghost unit tree could have the ability to pass through cave wall (at say 3-4MP cost).

I think this would be interesting. Opinions?

It sounds like those gryphons that are trying to fly over the impassable mountains :)

Movement Points. It appears Wesnoth doesn't actually use the term. Sorry about that...

I think in reallity, this is a good idea. But the undead are already a really abnormal civilization to play... This would give a whole new meaning to eastern invasion

KISS? Um, it would be very easy to do...

But anyway, I don't think ghosts should go through walls. While I'm sure the movement cost would be high, I think it would be adding way too much power to them as others units can not do so. Cave walls are seen as impassable.

Not to mention, if you had a Shadow or some other ghost unit hiding far enough in the wall of a tight passage in a cave so that it can't be attacked, but can still emerge from the wall to attack nearby enemies, your enemy would definitely think twice before advancing in that tight passage and being attacked from behind/side.

I think that map makers should be able to put an impassable terrain on a map. If we don't designate cave wall as a terrain that no unit is allowed to go through, what terrain can we use?

I believe with "KISS" he ment that adding such a change to ghosts would make undead play A WHOLE lot differently and require for an insane amount of rebalancing etcetera, not to mention; Walls are an unpassable terrain; that's the main reason they were created; Making units capable of moving trough an impassable terrain defies the whole part of it being "impassable"

It would make a lot of sense, but cavewall is serving double duty at the moment.

Zophas from Griffen's tale move through walls. I don't think ghosts should move through walls since that would unbalance alot of maps. It is bad enough we have terrains like lava that favor flying units.

if you really want it, hack the cfg file: you can change defenses there, ad should be able to to save more movement, right? Or give them an entire new type of movement.

I don't like this idea, though.

I was going to say it would make sense for ghosts to pass through walls, but then I remembered that hexes may represent several miles in actual distance.

I'm not so sure it makes as much sense to me now.

I think it woul make sense if this game was like pokemon tcg, where you might have card that is just better than the other, because this pokemon WAS better than the other. But Wesnoth is rather like MtG, where fantasy is only in storyline. Cave wall is made to NOT being passed. And next thing, is that you cannot win with guy who puts all his ghosts in wall. Each race should have at least one unit which is able to move throught one of terrain types. If ghost could move through walla, you should make more units in each race onem, that would be able to pass through walls.
