Definitely OT here (but this thread is drifting anyway) -- please remember that JPG is a lossy format. This means that information is lost -- the image is actually damaged by converting to JPG. In theory, the damage should be slight enough that the eye won't notice (and in practice, that is often, but not always, the case). Nevertheless, damage has been done. Formats like PNG and GIF, on the other hand, are lossless -- every bit is preserved. Converting from a lossy format to a lossless one is generally a very very bad idea, as it may give people the impression that they have received an undamaged original, when, in fact, they have not. This may tempt them to reconvert to a lossy format, doing additional damage.
