Helps to read the thread, eh?

The sylph on the right looks best except for the face - the middle face looks best to me.

Except the middle face has big bad diamond on it. Looking at it in Wesnoth style makes me shudder at the size of that thing if it really existed.

I join the skin is the best make up movement.

playing them

Post by nonobots »

[insert standard I'm new I love westnoth paragraph here]

Is there a way to download and playtest the high elves? Even an incomplete set would be fun to try. Could they be released a bit like the outlaw level 3 pack?

I'd really like to try them out. Great look, interesting differentiation from the wood elves. I can't wait to play High vs Wood elf games...

cheers

I'm not certain which version of the sylph's face looks best. However, it seems to me that the face of the newest sylph is smaller and more compact than previous versions. Is there any reason for this?

martenzo wrote:I didn't mean the sylph, I meant the three upper units on that picture.
The unit on the bottom is the Shyde.
The other three images are of the Sylph.

Both are five-letter S-words, but those are two different units, and the green one is the shyde, NOT the sylph.

Temuchin Khan: The reason for the face being more compact is that the hair is now (correctly) obscuring the sides, which I did not take into account before.

nonobots: I have not packaged one, nor have I released any of these graphics in a form that people could use easily. IIRWIIR :)

I don't know whether they would split from this thread, but sure, maybe make your own thread... Like "Thrawn's High Elves"

Slightly off-topic, but I have to ask: where did the name "Shyde" come from? Is there some kind of mythical or folkloric source, or did it just sound cool to someone (it does to me)?

It was a misspelling of Sidhe, a name from Irish mythology. IIRC, fmunoz first thought of the unit, and new how to pronounce the name, but not how to spell it. He committed it to CVS as Shyde, and it was just never changed. I don't remember why.

But "sidhe" is pronounced "shee". :?

Well, it was a mispronunciation also, then. But the namy Shyde DID come from Sidhe.

1.0 has been released. When can we look forward to the completion of the High Elves?

When Jetryl gets the time to finish them. He's been working on a hundred other projects to get wesnoth ready for 1.0. I bet he deserves a rest as well. The High Elves will be done eventually, but I doubt it will be anytime soon. Of course, I don't know any more than you do, but that's my impression from the forums.
