What i would like to see fixed before 1.0
Hello, I've been playing (and enjoying) MP for some time (not that much lately) and, thinking about the 1.0 release, I decided to point out the most annoying things I find when I play MP.
Note: The third one is not that important for the 1.0 release, and I understand that the list of features for that release is already frozen. But the first point i think should be addressed if possible, as it could became a serious hindrance for MP play.
1- I don't know how much difficult this will be in the development department, but i think a system for different "rooms" in the lobby is a must. When the game reaches 1.0 there will be, probably, a lot of buzz about it and we expect many new player to came and play. In that context the actual Lobby will be pretty useless. The "rooms" could be already made by the servers maintainers, or created online by the players. That would also facilitate that more people could play in their languages (there is many people right now who don't play MP just because they don't understand english).
2- Get rid of maps where the one who starts has a clear advantage if he/she knows already the map and is a good player. Spoils the fun
3- I brought this before, I'm not sure if there was more talk about it. It would be great if there was a chance to limit the time to play the turn. The key word here is CHANCE. i don't want to change the game, every body who likes to play as it is now could do so, but those who would like also to play a little faster, don't wait for lazy players, or do some blitz games, would have the chance to do so. I thought about a timer like the one Warlords 3 had. If it's not too hard to implement i think it would be a great adition to the game.
As always, thanks to all contributors for your excellent work.

If you'd like to name a specific map or maps, I'd be more than happy to discuss that with you. Seeing as you've not played recently though, you may want to do that so as to have a better sense of what's changed, map-wise (a lot has been altered since the days of the old map pack).Terpor wrote:I've been playing (and enjoying) MP for some time (not that much lately)

Good point. I agree that most 2 or 3 players map i've played recently seemed well balanced. But still the other day I played a 3v3 map (i can't tell you the name now, I don't have the game here) that I though was a bit unbalanced. Ir's the one of a small island with a village in the center and the rest scattered around the castles of the factions, 4 of them by the see, i think. The fact is, if you have a faction with aquatic units it's easy to ocupy not just some of "your" villages, but also the ones of the enemy that moves after you in turn 2. Well, i don't remember that very well now, but it was something like that.Doc Paterson wrote:Seeing as you've not played recently though, you may want to do that so as to have a better sense of what's changed, map-wise (a lot has been altered since the days of the old map pack).
Anyway, I agree with you that the maps are more balanced now, so forget if you want about point 2 of my first post

Non-English MP... it would probably be good if people could set up Wesnoth servers in their land. For example if someone in Slovakia would make a server for Slovak speaking people, it would both solve the language problem and make network connection faster. But, even if I could start a new MP server now... the problem is that average player would not know about it.Terpor wrote:When the game reaches 1.0 there will be, probably, a lot of buzz about it and we expect many new player to came and play. That would also facilitate that more people could play in their languages (there is many people right now who don't play MP just because they don't understand english).
Idea: How about making a list of "official Wesnoth servers"? It would work like this:
1) computer connects a "super-server" (at wesnoth.org), downloads a list of servers with their descriptions
2) user selects a server, and then connects to that server (from this point on, it works like current MP lobby)
It would be similar as e.g. DC++ where user downloads a list of nodes, and then selects the node to connect. It would allow dynamically add and remove official MP servers. Each server could have a list of recommended languages... if user has this language selected, the server in the list is highlighted.

I think you played Olof`s map Liliputh 6(or Liliputh 6c), its not standard one.Terpor wrote:I played a 3v3 map (i can't tell you the name now, I don't have the game here) that I though was a bit unbalanced. I definitely agree with you that there are imbalances in a few of the 4-player-and-up maps.....I've been considering making changes to a few of them- I only hesitate because I'm not the author of those maps (I did most of the 1v1s), and also, I know a lot of players are very attached to these maps in their current state, unbalanced or not. It's most likely that I'll make minor changes to them, trying my best to preserve the original look and feel of the maps.Terpor wrote:Good point. Beginner/avarage/veteran lobbys?
About those lobby ideas if u make them there should be lobbys by u r skill level... Its sometimes boring to teach some1 what this game is all about and i ll like to have more competition since i win more than i lose surely... It would be nice to play agains better players than u are to learn more. I got this idea from 1 chess site i used to play.
Doc would u like to beat me some day ?
I m not saying i m master but maybe avarage

My english is bad, but i at least try to write correctly, i have ten thingers too
(i think its normal
), if you write much you dont need to try to write fast, you will write faster and faster, even without thinking about it.
P.S.: I dont call anyone [censored], (s)elfish weirdo wrote it, i dont like reading that, its sometimes very hard to understant what you mean if you write like that, so i added it to my signature(that text wich is under every your post) to show i dont like it.
