Something split from [Abilities that have potential---]
Ah, man, way too fried to read all the other posts on this thread -- I just gotta throw these out there: Ski a.k.a. snowshoe, snow-walk, snow-striding; ignore the penalties of snow-covered terrain. (Perhaps skiing can also allow mountain-based and snow-hill charges against other terrains (downhill)?...

Seperate Riders From Mounts
Remember when a certain newly-appointed southern captain dismounted before entering the caverns? Let's expand on that. Every rider should be able to dismount, fight and maneuver as its own distinct unit. Also, mounts should be able to function as quite powerful (if unruly) units of their own when lo...

Re: 12x26 Winter Map -- Alpine Coldfront -- (my first post here)
http://www.box.net/shared/h04gtutsc0 I've reworked much of the map, taking into account what everyone said. You'll find caves and mushroom groves to provide shelter against the Gryphons (although now letting the computer play itself seems like this map favors UD and Northerners). Each caste has only...

Re: STORMSWEPT Special Terrain That Nerfs Flying Units' Mobility
Hi, Mushrooms, Caves and Deep Water are done for this purpose, depending of the flying unit you're talking about but i think the big problem is for Glyders and Gryphon Riders?! But a Storm terrain is a good idea, since it would be disgraceful to have shrooms in the mountains of your map for example...

Re: 12x26 Winter Map -- Alpine Coldfront -- (my first post here)
I changed the map quite a bit to make it more open for Loyalist forces and threw in some strategically placed impassable mountains to keep fliers from pwning so much. To slow the game a bit, I reduced each castle from two to one new-unit spawn points. I made snow-covered mountain passes along the no...

Re: STORMSWEPT Special Terrain That Nerfs Flying Units' Mobility
Ah, and this idea just came to me -- what about places that are impossible for flying units to attack, such as a deep, dark forest with a thick canopy that cannot be penetrated? Flying units can enter and occupy these spaces, but cannot attack non-flying units occupying such spaces (however, ground ...

STORMSWEPT Special Terrain That Nerfs Flying Units' Mobility
I recently discovered Wesnoth and built my first map, two-player 12x26 that looks like a nice place to live if you like iced over rivers twisting through snowbound forests in alpine mountain country. http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=23365 Anyways, this map has a lot of fun potent...

Re: 12x26 Winter Map -- Alpine Coldfront -- (my first post here)
Thanks for trying it out; your critical analysis is precisely the feedback I was looking for. Eh, I guess I didn't get enough sleep (I've been trading sleep for Wesnoth since discovering it), so I didn't really notice what you all had pointed out. I did, however, experience it. I played as Loyals ve...

12x26 Winter Map -- Alpine Coldfront -- (my first post here)
I have just discovered The Battle for Wesnoth, and enjoy playing the game a great deal....but not as much as I enjoy using the editor to create new maps! I decided to start with a small (12x26 tile) two-player map with perfectly reciprocitic symmetry that I call "Alpine Coldfront." It took...
