5. would bring some problems for translators. Some languages male/female forms, grammatical cases, so word by word translation would be clumsy with current tools available for translators. On the other hand, there are already such problematic strings in Wesnoth, so we might argue why are they better...

I think that all localized logos have to be approved by Wesnoth Art director Jetrel. At least that was what I did with Lithuanian logo. He gave me some advice after reviewing my work and then I fixed remaining problems.

What comes closest to the "source code equiavalent " would of course be the Photoshop/GIMP file, properly layered etc (if it ever was so in the original state), in it's fullest resolution and so on. And the comparable for music files, including the usage of VST:s, settings, samples and so...

You can always join #wesnoth-lt channel on Freenode IRC server to discuss translation with Lithuanian team. Note, that we have some intrusive changes planned for 1.8 that we would like to avoid doing in stable releases (changing unit names, changing Wesnoth'as to Vesnotas).
