That is actually mostly what they're for, My initial plan didn't include them as mounted units. I thought that giving them horses would make them better leadership units - then I pulled the leadership ability off of them...

I haven't really thought of a quick twist in the storyline, I've just been molding an entire new section of the world to Wesnoth with additional culture and everything. I'll have to see...
