If only discussions on luck could be solved so easily. Worth a try though, remove all statisical data viewing and see if the luck complaints and discussions end.

Sorry if I'm dragging this point out, please ignore this thread if I'm boring you. My reason for having standard deviation in is that sometimes people say they have been really unlucky, or vice versa, it would be interesting to know how unlucky one has been, which is what SD would measure. I don't t...

I think you are missunderstanding my motive for proposing this idea. It is not because I think that the RNG is in anyway bad or biased. I am very happy with the wesnoth RNG and the game in general. I am not a complainer of bad luck nor do I think wesnoth is a game of luck like some have proposed. Th...

Just because a finite set of numbers are random doesn't mean they are uniformally distributed or average. I am talking about the numbers for any specific game. I had left the post as the people who would likely make use of my suggestion showed little or no interest, I returned to it as others had po...

Thanks for having a look into this, I hadn't noticed this thread had been replied to in a while. I was thinking more of analysing the numbers produced by the rng rather then how much damage is done in game play. But I do think that giving the variance or standard deviation of the damage done/taken w...

To Msschmahl. The point you made there I have discussed before on previos threads, which is patially why I feel that this idea would offer some usefull information. To Dave. Yes you are right rolling a 90 is the same as rolling a 50 if you need 40 to hit, but not if you need 60 to hit. My point here...

Sorry, I didnt make myself clear. What I meant was a statisical report of the numbers generated by the RNG for a player in a game of wesnoth, similar to the stats box which can be viewed by pressing s. I think this would give a good idea of how lucky or unlucky one has been in a game. I hope this is...

Statistical analysis of the RNG

Thats it really. I think this would be a usefull addition to the stats table already in place. A mean of your dice rolls and their corresponding standard deviation. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to do, but I can't imagine myself doing it, so does any kind person in dev think this is a go...

I said "yes, but a little unbalanced" Sometimes the difference between a Resilient/x(not quick) and a Quick/y(not resilient) is too large a gap in hp. Sometimes more then 10hp and an extra 1 move is not much use and does not compensate for this and the unit is much less useful. Not a big p...

I think a rules of behavior list might be a good idea. This although not easy to enforce will give people an idea of what is acceptable behavior and what isn't.

Thanks Dave, I am very happy to see you have decided to address this problem. Unsocial behavior spoils a friendly and fun gaming enviroment. I'm not sure about the karma rating idea, maybe something as simple as a black list in the forum where people can post their experiences anonymously. This coul...

Thankyou for that Viliam, it seems to work well. Not meaning to look a gift horse in the mouth, if thats the right expression, but there is no random option. To continue with strange expressions what I'm trying to say is I hope it's not a case of give a man an inch and he takes a mile. Following wha...

OK just to clarify. 0-1 attack is the same as a 1-1 attack as in wesnoth all attacks do a minimum of 1 damage. But what if it's night and the unit being attacked has a weakness to this damage type, could 1-1 increase to 2-1 under these circumstances? This would make 0-1 worse. But if a strong addept...

Thanks for some interest here. I wouldn't know how to continue with your start Viliam, thanks for putting in the effort. If someone with knowledge of how to continue with this and is interested enough in this idea it would be interesting to me to see how the factions match up. But if nobody is too i...
