Recompressing PNG files to shrink install package
I tried PNGOUT to recompress files in wesnoth and got some file size decrease, for example:

Original: 1049 bytes
After recompression: 951 bytes

Can't download anything inside the game
I can't use Wesnoth 0.9.6 to play anything concrete. I mean I can't
1. Install any campaign
2. Create or observe any multiplayer game
For all of these I simply see a 4xxxxxxKB/xxxxKB in the download status. The big number is counting down, of course.

The resistance system I wrote about is the same as yours, seeing that 1/2 =20%, 1/4=25%.... and yes, this is probably better than the original.. for a board game anyway. I think there is another way to deal w/ damage resistance of blade/pierce weapons. Those resistance in Wesnoth are usually +20%/-...
