The core 'cheap, weak unit' of the Northerners is the Orcish Grunt. Get tons of them. Then the Orcish Archer; if your enemy is weak to Pierce, use the Goblins instead of Grunts, but otherwise, they're not such a good idea. Grunts and Assasasins together are good at taking out Woses. Trolls are good...

Playing Orcs
I've been taking turns playing the various multiplayer races against the AI to try and hone my strategies against specific race match-ups. I've recently started trying to play orcs, and have run into some problems. I've been operating under the impression that the core tactic behind the orcs is the ...

I was in the drake hate camp since first being introduced to Wesnoth back in the 8.6 days. The three perceptions that first formed was that they all had lots of hit points, they could fly, and they hit hard. Since playing 9.1 my opinion has radically changed and I'm not sure how much of that is the ...

I don't know that it's really far to say that OpenGL is faster than SDL, since so much depends on a given system's graphics card, driver, bus speed, etc. As such I would not recommend adding OpenGL support merely in an effort to make Wesnoth faster. However, OpenGL is certainly far more feature rich...

Did you know that users can also directly edit their save and campaign files? They could give themselves more gold, hit points, units, or even unit types! They could edit the maps and change the dialogue and... gosh, almost everything! And isn't that the point of open source software? More choices/f...

I have only one work to describe this campaign: Wow. I loved the pace of the adventure, the choices available, the dialogue, and most of all the story. Not only was there an excellent job tying in with the main Wesnoth storyline, I found the emotional tone of the characters realistic and compelling....

I was terrified at how poorly I did playing though this campaign. I found the first map rather easy and had little trouble with it, but by map three I was having serious problems. I finally managed to 'finish' the entire campaign, but only with an excessive amount of save-loading and giving myself a...

Playing though on Medium (0.8.9), this was the first map that really stopped me cold. After getting stalled on Bay of Perls the first time though, I ended up restarting from the beginning with a much larger focus on leveling up an army. When I arrived at the Valley I had a large number of leveled un...

Vocal Minority
I have often taken comfort in the mantra, "If no one is complaining, you're not doing anything important." If nothing else you can enjoy the fact that the game has risen to the level that the single helix troglodytes feel compelled to comment. Some people will complain about anything. Othe...
