I may be approuching this the wrong way, but I've always took the rough castle with wooden walls dirt and a tent to be a "war camp" as in the place where you soldeirs would pitch their tents. Sort of like what the roman legions where famouse for doing: temperary forts. So although that does look very good it does not quite fit that image with the stone floor, but then again I might ahve always had the wrong impression on what that was supposed to be and that does look realy nice.

This is not supposed to be a replacement for the current encampment. It's some kind of intermediate between human castle and encampment.Velensk wrote:I may be approuching this the wrong way, but I've always took the rough castle with wooden walls dirt and a tent to be a "war camp" as in the place where you soldeirs would pitch their tents. And as I wrote, the floor is temporary. I simply used the castle tile as a placeholder.
Aurë entuluva!
In that case, very good I like the look of it.

Yeah, the NE and NW corners need work. After fixing their alignment I'll rearrange the walkways to be running around the back of the towers instead of the sides, move the towers in to line up with the SE and SW, and fix the out of alignment walk across the back.mog wrote:Looks pretty good:
But you need to adjust the spacing of the top and/or bottom towers. And we obviously need a better base tile.
You don't need additional WML for straight sections, because as you can see, there are no really straight sections. Just drawing the concave towers in the same orientation as the convex ones should be enough.
I suggest calling this castle "Fortified Encampment" (I used Cf as terrain letter)
Now that i have my home PC I opened up wesnoth and saw what you meant about no straights. For some reason, my mental picture of a 7-tile "round" castle had straight edges. Well, good to know that was just confusion. Thanks for making a demo for me

Um, if someone could write the WML for this terrain, be it known that I'd be really pleased to know.

For the floor of the castle, it might be a good idea to use the "dirt" tile. The only problem with that is it might make it look like the inside was made of mud.
But grass wouldn't work either (both because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense and because it makes it really hard to distinguish the terrain - I'm sorry to say that I rarely use the beautiful elven castle because the floor of it I find distracting and too much like grassland).
Clearly the tiled floor doesn't work so well, though...
What about a slightly more solid-looking dirt tile? Failing that, I'd probably vote for the plain old dirt terrain, it's not perfect but it will probably be decent.
Also, what's the plan for the keep of this terrain? Are you going to make it a single object, like the tents of the encampment, or the throne of the dwarven castle, or a complicated wall like the keeps of the human and elven castles? I think either could work.

What kind of a town would to the expense of paving every single square inch inside their walls and yet not make the walls entirely out of stone?

I'd rather prop up and nail wooden planks than mortar and lay potentially hundreds of stones as a wall.

That wasn't Turin's point though... why pave the entire town but not make a stone wall? Wouldn't building a stone wall take precedence if you're going to be laying stone and building a town wall at all?scienceguy8 wrote:I'd rather prop up and nail wooden planks than mortar and lay potentially hundreds of stones as a wall.
I'm going to make a custom or semi-custom floor tile anyway, so the discussion is a little moot. If I can make it look nice, it will be hard packed dirt paths among other dirt; I might also try to decorate it with small buildings and stuff.
The keep, I think, will be a standalone building. I haven't decided what style yet.

Is this any use? It's a simple play with the brightness, contrast, saturation etc. of the standard dirt.
