Re: Terrain: orc stuff

These look great, but I have to agree with TSI, there's just a little lack of polish and a little difference in style that are really keeping these out of line with mainline work. I think the high contrast suggestion is a good start, and TSIs suggestion about the lack of what you might call fractal noise looking texture. There could be a little more variation in the saturation and value in the individual planes and flats.

Please keep it up.

Thanks. I re-shaded them with a different method. I didn't manage to get the round one done.

Dragonchampion, you should know better. That was a decidedly unhelpful, pointless comment.

I would say that the house with the crossed spears over the door looks really good now! The leanto looks better, but the rocks seem either to be really unnatural shapes, or overlapping each over, rather than being stacked up. (I hope that made sense)

this goes for they're/their/there as well

I have no more flaws to point out here - these seem perfectly fit for their purpose :D

Awesome work.

I'd like to see some loose stones/rubble around them. Otherwise they look very very good. Great job! :)
I wish I had more time in my hands.

Thanks for the kind comments. I'll fiddle with the leanto rocks and add some little loose rocks to all. But for now I wanted to post this one because it didn't make it into that last screenshot. If it's close enough to OK, I think I can get them finished by the end of the week.

It seems a bit weird, looking at the screeny with the plethera of villages, that these face south east, east, and south.

Whereas the others have variety not only in design but in direction. Perhaps just one more could be added to the set?

The more, the merrier. But I don't have another one now, and it will be a while before I can make it.

Others may or may not agree, but I think these are finished. I put the screenshot in the first post.

/me places his stamp of approval for commit on this, although whoever does it should get rid of that stray line in the upper-right corner of village3.png

EDIT: Actually, I've just gone ahead and committed the images myself, and fixed that line. Someone else will need to do the WML, I just wanted to make sure these wouldn't get forgotten.

Wired in for grassland only in r35225. Editor icon is still missing, I'll fix that tomorrow.

Sorry about that line, I don't know why that was there.

I made a fourth house:

I also tried to get the snow versions, but may have rushed it. I can take another pass at it on the weekend.

These are all very good. Have you thought about trying other features? Dry stone walls, fences, palisades, ruins (not necessarily castle ruins) (and actually, what about a couple of partly-built structures?), horse troughs, gallows, wood piles, yadda yadda. These are just some suggestions if you feel like a change.

Ayona's made some lovely villages too recently. I wonder if she might feel like diversifying?

As is, they feel more like white logs than snow covered but I imagine if you just render a couple lumps and paint on some icicles you'll be about there. Good work.

You could slightly bury the back of the leanto one.
