I'll gladly help out with re-wording any text you want. Either post it here, or PM me.

Great :D

I think I will make a list of the strings in the game and encourage every native English speaker to help me with them: red = needs re-wording, green = done, black = not written yet.

The Berserker messages:
"Some beers once brewed by dwarves were known to impart strange abilities to those who drank them: this brew sets movement costs for cave, fungus, hills, mountains, forest and sand to 1."

"Och, nae woot do ye think ye be doin' laddie? Ye'll noot be takin' ma beer!"

The cobra message:
"This cobra's venom may have poisoned you but it makes you tough, even if you feel a bit dizzy now: +3 speed, -5% defense on grassland."

The frog ring message:
"It is said that only 3 of this rings exist and were given to three, once powerful, lord of the mervolk but when their powers disappeared the rings were lost. You are lucky, it seems like you found one of them! This magical item gains you a powerful cold attack."

The fire scepter message:
"Blood of a dragon, rare ancient creatures, powerful and dangerous at the same time, and the skills of the most experienced dwarvish workers are needed to build this valueable weapon. This magical item gains you a powerful fire attack."

I feel the "for" is used wrong here, isn't it?:

"For which range would you like to use this weapon?"

The story:
"A long time ago a very rich, Dwarvish Lord lived here, inside the mountains. Actually it was such a long time in the past that nobody can really be sure if he truly lived there but it is said that he, before he had died, buried a big treasure of gold, silver and Mithril, diamonds and crystals somewhere in his cave. Now six brave, tough treasure hunters came to look for this valuable treasure, but only one of them can find and carry it home..."

The instructions:
" - Reach the chest with the valuable dwarvish treasure in the centre to win.
- To unstone the the stoned Wyverns in the middle kill all 6 Monsters of the Den.
- For killing creep you get a gold bonus which you can spend for upgrades.
- The prices of upgrades increase everytime you choose them.
- Villages earn no money.
- Potions and items earn you a bonus, but be careful: some of them have also disadvantages!
- To take the treasure you must have got 50 points. Points are earned for nearly everything you do.
- If you die you will respawn but lose points.
- If you kill something you get one MP back and can attack another unit.
- If you kill an enemy hero you will get full health back."

The rest are unit descritions. If they are already done they are fine, if not they also need to be written.

Here goes nothing:

The cobra message:
"The cobra's venom burns as it slides down your throat. You feel your movements speed up and notice a slight blurring to your vision: +3 speed, -5% defense on grassland."

The frog ring message:
"Legends claim that only 3 of these magical rings were ever created. They were gifts to merfolk lords from the dwarves. With the waning of the merfolk's powers the rings were lost in the mists of time. It seems like you have been lucky enough to find one of them! This magical item grants you a powerful cold-based attack."

The fire scepter message:
"Combining the blood of those rare and ancient creatures, the dragons, known for their immense power and dangerous natures, with the skills of the most experienced dwarvish workers this valuable weapon has been crafted. This magical item gains you a powerful fire-based attack."

Baufo wrote:I feel the "for" is used wrong here, isn't it?:

Try:
Would you like this weapon to be melee or ranged?

"There is a legend concerning these mountains. It is said that many years ago a Dwarvish Lord with a penchant for amassing wealth (even moreso than your average dwarf) made them his home. Before his death he acquired wonders from all the corners of the world - exquisitely crafted items made of gold, silver and mithril, the most beautiful collection of valuable gems and crystals, exotic scents and perfumes, and a collection of wonderful magical items. Not wishing to be deprived of his wealth in death, he ordered it all buried alongside his body.

Many years after his death, six determined treasure hunters have found the entrance to his tomb. Each is determined to beat the others to the treasure and claim it as his own!

The instructions:
" - Reach the chest containing the Dwarvish Lord's treasure in the centre to win.
- To unstone the Wyverns in the middle, and thus gain access to the central area kill all 6 Monsters of the Den.
- Killing creeps earns you a gold bonus which you can spend on upgrades.
- The prices of upgrades increase each time you choose them.
- Villages earn no money.
- Potions and items may have beneficial or detrimental effects!
- To take the treasure (and win the game) you must have earned 50 points. Points are earned for nearly everything you do.
- If you die you will respawn, but with a penalty - loss of points.
- Killing something earns you one MP back and allows you to make another attack.
- Killing an enemy hero restores your health to its maximum."
The Past never was.
The Future never will be.
There is only Now.

Uploaded BETA5: some fixes; map changes, creep stats changed, adjusted creep spawning pattern, the big demon will now spawn in late game; + DraconicBlessing's new wordings.

Not sure if this is the correct thread to convey issues:

I downloaded Beta 5 and got the following message around turn 6 or 7:

error engine: unit of type Satyr not found!
error general: Error while playing the game: game_error: Unknown unit type 'Satyr'

Any chance you could post the necessary file(s).

Anyway, I like it so far, and want to keep playing it!

That's very odd. The first Satyr spawns at turn 2. Is it possible that you tried to edit the scenario but are not completely sure what you did? Maybe you should try to download it again.

I should have been more accurate. It happened on turn 8, not 6 or 7. Also, I check the source files and the Satyr is present.

I dowloaded the files again, then loaded the last saved game before the above message occured (perhaps I should start again with a new game), and it happened again.

Anyway, I ended up editing the save game (turn 8) and replacing all instances of Satyr in event 8 with "Imp". When I played that save game, I got the above message, but this time it couldn't find "Imp" which should be found in turn 9.

Anyway, probably me for some reason. I'll keep looking around, or perhaps see what happens when I start from the beginning.

EDIT: I started from the beginning and I didn't get that errors. False alarm. Sorry. I will try it again. Great job.

Baufo, I'm gonna re-word the victory conditions for you when I get the time.

In Shredskin Cobra.cfg line 109 says:

Code: Select all

image="spitting-cobra.png"
It should be:

Code: Select all

image="shredskin-cobra.png"
Also, in the description of the Magic Ring, in line 322 can you change "the merfolk's powers" to "the merfolks' power".

More to come soon - plus some comments on balancing.

Oh I think I can see your problem now. Well, these extra creeps are _only_ availabel in multiplayer I think. I assume they are not set to be availabel when you load a game, only when you start one but I am not sure if if this behaviour is intended or a bug. Anyway I am glad you like it.

Thanks, I am going to change this image and "merfolk's".

I don't like this map any more. There are too many monsters, too much poison, and it takes way too long to finish.
