Hearold: A scimitar is a more powerful, deadly weapon, therefore he upgrades to it.

If you want that, why not add to the existing OUTLAWS to make them a separate faction? I think most of the concept of this race would fit with an extended outlaw faction (which would need a proper faction name, obviously), with a special cave-dwelling unit or so added.Warrior King wrote:The purpose of the race would be to add a dark side to the game that is an offspring of the goodguys.
It's often more constructive to add to what's already there than to bring something entirely novel into the existing Wesnoth world (just remember the Drake discussions!). And it would help the Knalgans get rid of some odd company in order to finally team up with their barbarian (marauder?) fellows.
And most importantly, who needs more ELVES

I'd actually like to see several seperate 'tribes' in each race. For instance, Humans can be divided into Loyalists and Outlaws (and perhaps soon Mercenaries and Marauders), and Elves can be divided into Wood Elves and soon High Elves. Variety is cool.Rhuvaen wrote:And most importantly, who needs more ELVES- sheesh.

I don't particularly like 'dark elves', though... why are they so much better than dark humans? Or dark drakes?
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

Elves have been around a long time, and they're adaptable. We have (in the works) High Elves on plains, and Desert Elves on sand (although I admitt they're not canon). Elves cope better in the dark than humans do.Elvish Pillager wrote:I'd actually like to see several seperate 'tribes' in each race. WINR, I know, but in this world successful species spread to new habitats and adapt to survive and thrive there. I see no reason why Elves wouldn't spread to the cave networks beneath Wesnoth, and, in time, diverge from their surface brethren. Humans just don't do as well underground, on account of needing light. Dark Drakes? Why not - but tight crawling tunnels isn't the best place for fliers...
Underground elves makes sense to me. Dark Elves seems as good a name for such a race as any other.
I'm not quite sure where they'd get the feathers they wear in their hats, though. Dark Chickens?
Elves need light just as much as humans do. Also, it would be nigh-on-impossible for them to adapt to caves, since they are the worst race in caves (most of them move only 1 on caves per turn). If they went down there, they would quickly come back up, if they were still alive.
The idea of a dark elf, in this situation, seem to me like basically a direct copy from DnD that has no real purpose in Wesnoth. High Elves, Desert Elves, Marauders and Mercenaries all make much more sense.

No one said you have to like the idea turin.
We just want to make a campagin of the Dark Elves. The Wood Elves use light magic, and the Dark Elves have fallen away from the light and become evil (hey, what's wrong with evil?). If the devs like it, they can add it to MP. If not, just let people enjoy the campagin.
Oh, the reason the current elves don't do good in caves is because their use to forest. If they were forced to go down to caves, they would adapt because they are very intelligent.
