Yes, that would be good.js138 wrote:Having just installed 0.9 I can report it does the same thing with that as with 0.8.11. I can send you chapter and verse of the error message if you like.

Hm... I get the same error too now... but I really don't know what the problem is. The code looks innocuous enough; or does the game now crash when it tries to kill a nonexistant unit, or when a nonexistant unit tries to speak?

From what dave has said, the bug was with the wesnoth code, not with the scenario. So wait until 0.9.1 comes out (hopefully soon!), then the scenario won't crash.
Also, loading from the beginning of the scenario shouldn't be necessary, since its a code change, not a WML change.

So, uh, any other bugs/suggestions? Is anyone actually playing this campaign?

*shock* my campaign's thread almost fell off the first page!
New version released, 0.3.0. There is a new scenario at the end, but its probably not balanced, and it has little of the fancy WML that characterized the first 4 scenarios. There is also a new talking scenario in between 4 and 5, as there were ones between 2+3 and 3+4.
Also, thanks to torangan's project, SoF is being translated. I think there are now swedish and german translations, but I'm not sure.
---
BTW, could I have some feedback? This was an unfortunate but necessary triple post. It seems like no one is playing this campaign (:() which is unfortunate, since IMHO its better than either of my previous two.

I played the campaign so far several times:
"Closing the gate" you are to hard on time. I'm playing on medium and several times it completely depends on teh enemy moves if your able to win: I never reach the upper (minor) entrance before turn 11; so if the elf puts a hero on the glyph your done.

It's beatable but sometimes you get very tented to push this reload button. I like the flair of it very much but would appreciate a couple of more turns.
"Searching for the Runecraft" is ok as it is.
"Gathering materials" the map is to big for the given time. I played through it 4-5 times with always the same result. Turns run out with my gold loaded (last) miner running for the tend to dump the whole stuff. All enemeys whipped out. Finally driven by frustration I hacked into the .cfg and gave me 50 turns.

"The Forge" unfortunately is not found "unknown scenario error"
I conferm, it's a very nice campaign and as soon as you fix the broken scenario link I'll continue to play.
Thanks for the feedback.
What difficulty level are you playing on? I have never had any trouble at all on Closing the Gates medium, in fact I thought it was too easy. I might make hard a bit easier, though.
On Gathering Materials, I agree with the map being too big. How does 35*35 sound? Right now it is 50*50.
Do you have the newest version? If you do, you should get to another scenario, The Hills of the Shorbear Clan, before you get an unknown scenario error, and it should be for a scenario called Insurrection, not The Forge.

CtG - Playing on medium, but maybe I got a to conservative attitude, trying not to lose troops...turin wrote:Thanks for the feedback.

GM - 35*35 sounds ok.
I've downloaded yesterday 13.May 05 so I'd suppose it should be the last one. But maybe I'll try to uninstall (dump) the SoF folders/files and redownload the latest version. I had similar problems once with another campaign, where old files remained for unknown reasons.
Well, I've made both hard and medium a tiny bit easier - removed one of the troll enemies from the northern path. Other than that, it is the same. I think that, if you use guardsmen, it is not extraordinarily difficult to hold your ground. Are you using them? You can't recruit them until this scenario, so you might not notice.
I'm going to update the map generator for Gathering Materials. It is a random map, so there are many numbers to be changed...

It's not the problem to hold the ground against the elves at the main entrance, but to get all the trolls killed fast enough to reach the northern glyph and wipe out all eventual elvish intruders. The guardsmen are indeed very nice as a ditch against the rising water not only in this scenario but in GM as well.

I've hacked around the unknown scenario "The_Forge" error, but confirm: In your GM.cfg the next scenario is indicated as "4_The_Forge"; maybe something left behind from a prior version.
TSHC scenario needs some rebalancing. On medium the enemys are to weak. (well maybe I've got to much money through my GM hack - I've started with 220 gold) The dwarf definitely has to get more money and the elf as well. Then you should have a piece of woods reaching until near the cave entrance to give the elves a chance to get at you in time. Maybe you would like to put them in the North-East corner so they stirr up a bit more trouble, as they'll going to move between the cave entrance and your front line.
The griffon isn't marked as a hero charakter nor is he mentioned in the scenario objectives but you are defeated if he dies.
Looking forward to the next update
OK, I've fixed Gathering Materials not going to the right scenario. I'll upload it once I get THOTSC rebalanced.
220 gold is a reasonable amount for the scenario, maybe a little low. If its that easy with that much gold, it needs rebalancing. I'm not sure if adding forest near your castle will really help; dwarves for some reason go 1 on forest, just like on hill. They have worse defence, though.
For plot reasons, I can't put the elves in the northeast corner, they have to be in the southwest. Maybe I could rotate the map, though...
I also noticed the gryphon not being a hero. Its easy to fix, I'll do it right now.
However, is in the scenario objectives on my machine; can you check again?

Checked, your right: he's in the objectives in THOTSC but he is not in GM.turin wrote: ...

Then I forgotten to say, seems that getting all the heroes in the cave doesn't trigger the end level/victory event. I had to slaughter the elf leader to get a victory...
The forest stretching right near the player cave/keep would not hinder the dwarves, but give a big advantage (movement&defense) to the elves, stirring up trouble right after a few turns...
How do you hack it? I've tried changing the text in the GM.cfg file to The_Jeweler but it still doesn't work.I've hacked around the unknown scenario "The_Forge" error, but confirm: In your GM.cfg the next scenario is indicated as "4_The_Forge"; maybe something left behind from a prior version.

If you want to use a safe of GM you actually have to hack the The_Jeweler.cfg, as the next scenario is saved somewhere within the save file I believe.Rothrorn wrote:How do you hack it? thanks
Take the 4t_The_Jeweler.cfg and rename it:
4_The_Forge.cfg
Than open it in a text application and change the 3rd and 4th line as follows:
name="The Forge"
id=4_The_Forge
It is "only" a talking scenario, so don't worry to save; it'll bring you to next playable scenario; enjoy
