A bit like this?

A workable version can be done with WML in a few lines. But I doubt any noob would be able to do that.

Bad place for it, I can see many people accidentally ending their turn when going for the Speak button.

Indeed that is one of the bad points of having the speak button in that position. But it also has its good points. i.e. The speak button is now very obvious, and it's new position doesn't change the rest of the default theme at all, so it's good for people who have got used to the existing theme.

Wesnoth actually comes with 3 themes (default, dfool, experimental) at the moment, but only "default" is ever used. Perhaps it can have a theme specifically for multiplayer which has a speak button, and other functionalities which are suitable for multiplayer?

Yes that was a good one.

Just the same way as you can't expect "noobs" to code their own chat button, you shouldn't expect them to discover and try new themes on their own (like you said, "only 'default' is ever used"). If you want to have a chat button for the "noobs" to use, the only (reliable) way is to have it in the default theme.
Yes I use windows, too.
Yes I too am aware of what that means.
Yes I'm still gonna use windows too.

If I may share a personal reflection, sometimes I wonder maybe I should try and play MP? Then I run into something like some of the comments in this thread and all the doubts are gone.

I agree with you.

I rarely play Mp with people I don't know IRL , because it soon gets like that..."You noob!" " sorry I want this ally not him", or "oh he's a noob". and then they leave... not welcoming. And also MP playstyle is so different from what campaign is.
You like gold? you don't care about Kings or wizards? You hate elves? then be a Griffoon Lad
