The problem, as i see it, is that the continous stubble fits better to this particular portrait, while the discrete stubble is better in line with how the stubble is presented in the existing portraits. One could always speculate that maybe the loyalist have smoother, silkier beards, and the facial hair of the outlaws is more rugged and coarse. :P

Anyway, it's a minor issue, and I think the "Gillette" version is completely presentable.

Yes both versions are good, the beard are a thing that people appreciate if see it, but dont mind much if not. Anyway both versions can be very useful, at the start of a campaign you can use the gillete version, and at later scenarios the one with beard. when the soldier is tired and things aren't going well and these things...

My only reason for preferring the one without the stubble would just be to make the outlaw portraits look just that little bit more outlaw'ish by having the army soldier portraits look more clean and dandy than them. A stubble is IMO a good way to make that subtle difference between clean and dandy and robbing travellers on a forest road. It's a rather minor preference for me though, so I don't really care much if at all.

Good points recently. The ragged stubble in contrast with something else could add a lot.

Is it all right if I move on to another portrait while the details work themselves out? I'll do as many edits as necessary.

Sure. I think you've provided several different variations of stubblyness for us to choose from, now we just need to choose one.

Lest anyone think that I've died...

I am moving about 2500 kms away from my current home and will be on the road for most of this week. However, next Tuesday I'll be able to get back to the next portrait (have the linework done, just didn't have time to colour it).

Happy painting all!

All right, I'm in a new place with a new job, still looking for a new house but things have settled enough I can start working again on this. However, two questions:

1) I see there's some new blood *waves to rooster (great style)* --- are my services still needed?

2) I see that there's been no further discussion on the cav portait. Should I continue with the fencer portrait(s) or hold off for some sort of divine intervention?

Cheers

1)

Hell Yes.

2)

The one is good in my humble opinion. Someone in charge should add it to the core.

Actual no one knows how the style will evolve but at the moment cell shaded is standard. So I would stick to it until someone finally says the damned final words. Still campaign users are and will love this portraits.

1) Yes!

2) If Jetryl gives the go-ahead I have no problems adding this SVN. IMHO it's worthy of addition.

Thanks Shadow & turin, good to hear! I've been looking very much forward to getting back to painting. I'll post up the new image tomorrow (or at the lastest Friday morning) in this thread.

A reason why it wasn't added yet?

It wasn't added yet because I was waiting for Jetryl to officially give it a "yea" or "nay", which he never did... but yeah, I agree, we should just commit it already. I did so.

Tamur, how do you want to be listed in the credits?

hi all,

Back from the dead. There is a contributor to deviantArt named wayfarerpg (not sure who that is here) who said that the portrait had made it to mainline, which is good to hear.

I think now that I know that official "yes" and "no" simply take a long time around here, I'll get back to contributing if there's still a need. This is a great project, I was just never sure if what I was doing was actually acceptable to those in charge.

If there have been more substantive discussions on "official" style I should be aware of, someone let me know please. Otherwise I'll finish off the portrait I had mostly finished back in July.

Cheers,
Tamur

oh and as far as credits, my internet name here (Tamur) would be just fine. Thanks!

Yep that was me. Wayfarer was already used by another gentleman with wealth and taste and Shadow was besieged by some sonic fan kiddies. :annoyed:

Putting this aside welcome back. :)
