I was aware that colour-blindness only affected greens and reds.

I dont think it as severe as Viliam's first diagram. Though i may be wrong, but i still think this is a good idea

Red-green is the most common (I think), but there are many kinds of colour blindness affecting many different colours.

Since Viliam's initial diagram, star-shaped ellipses are now used to indicate hero units so it's not practical anyway.

I think the best option is probably a variant of Image. I'll have a play and see if I can make it a bit more elegant-looking.

Would perhaps a letter to represent the colour be practical?

e.g. R ed
B lue
G reen etc.

Simply put the letters like you have done with the numbers

Oh i see what he was doing now. Sorry i got confused thinking that the numbers represented the colours, when actually they represented the teams.

Yes that is a much better idea :D

Yeah, the numbers look like a good idea. But wouldn't some units cover the numbers? Are any units that big? Maybe the numbers should be layered on top of everything else so that it's clear.

units can't cover the numbers since the numbers are part of the ellipsis, which is drawn "after" the unit

Actually, there is an argument for writing the colour given that all the chatter will be about "the red team" and "the green team". Noone I know says "It's team 3's move".

I'd say there's room there for two letters (Rd,Gr,Bl) or maybe even 3 (Red,Gre,Blu).

I dunno, what do you think?

Actually, the more I look at it, the less I think it needs tweaking. It needs antialiasing, and I might prefer a square rather than a circle around the number, but that's about it.

Maybe have numbers in the ellipse and write the team name (red green blue etc) in the righthand side blurb about the unit.

How about having the name of the colour in the margin with th rest of the unit info, and different shapes for the mini map as a quick refernce? Though that might prove tricky to define each one unless you make the mini map bigger.

Mm, the mini map's another struggle altogether...

There's basically nothing we can do there, artwise - those dots are only 4x4 pixels. There'd need to be a hotkey to brighten a particular team's dots or something.

P.S. I tinkered with the graphics for the numbers, and the more I played with it, the more it converged on Viliam's original combined with the new ellipse. So that seems like the way to go...

Of course, the way to test this is to use one of those old monochrome cathode-ray tube monitors...

... woah. That could work.
