sun/moon/earth <-> day/night/neutralautolycus wrote:Or even just Sun/Moon. The Sun/Moon duality has fewer obvious negative/positive connotations than Light/Dark, Law/Chaos etc.Eponymous-Archon wrote:Perhaps a simple "prefers day/night" would do it.
works quite well as a differentiation : given that Elves & Dwarves are the main 'neutral' races and both (in different ways, one through forest the other through mountains) are linked to the earth rather than the sun or the moon...
solar/lunar and something else (terran doesn't seem quite right to me... to many Star Trek/SF connotations, perhaps...) would make a three way naming convention without bringing alignment/morality into things...
I'll have to dig out some big books of words and try to come up with a third... (solar/lunar/gaian?)

I guess one advantage of sun/moon is that the little time-of-day graphic shows those, so it is intuitively simple to grasp. At the same time, sun/moon do have some archetypal/mythic associations which make them good candidates. Sun/moon/shadow is ok too, for lawful/chaotic/neutral.

I think that lawful/neutral/chaotic work just fine.
Wesnoth is not the real world, and day and night work differently in Wesnoth.
In Wesnoth, forces of chaos influence the world during the night, and forces of law influence the world during the day. Thus lawful/neutral/chaotic are appropriate, since it describes the type of forces that one fights best under the influence of.
