Yeah, except the sprites make them look a little too blue and chubby. In real life they are women with the lower body of a fish. I know, I know, WINR, but I'd really love to get my hands on the guy that made the supposedly beautiful mermaids look like blue Eskimos. I'm going to have to make some sprites myself and submit them.

I do plan on revising them in the upcoming team-color job. They'll be considerably bigger, allowing for more detail. However, their torsos are going to remain blue-skinned; as much as the basic idea of mermen is preposterous, the idea of a totally mammalian top combined with a totally fish-like bottom is even more so. (I imagine the existing ones as having completely fish-like flesh, even on their upper bodies; on their upper bodies, though, it would come out a lot more like catfish skin does, than regular fish. Fish skin, but without scales.

See, i personally prefer the idea of mermen as mammals through-and-through, with dolphin-like lower anatomy, and no gills but hyper-efficient lungs to allow anything from 1 minutes to over an hour under water. It fits better with the way their tails traditionally go - dolphin tails are horizontal like mermen tails, where fish tails are vertical.

There's a reason their order name is Sirenia. Of the sirenians, Dugongs have a more cetacean/mermaid-like tail.

That's probably because of "mage" is not a race, but just a "profession", usually for humans.
