Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
Eh, I can live with it, assuming the boss can.

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
i've got no problem with the chainmail at all, as i said it looks really shiny to me
but i still have some problems with some other little things
i think the face could benefit from some deeper shadows. the beard still doesn't look like hair. and the breastplate... i think its shape needs more love. it's simly too simple atm, it accentuates his enourmous belly in a strange way and loosk somehow of.
i routinely did a little paintover for the beard/facial shadows and a quick suggestion for the breastplate based on swing's comment (feel free to disregard that and come up with something more interesting)
and nice work on the new sentinel helmet!

You're getting pretty good with the chainmail. Nice work.
For the dark gods!
Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
Everything looks a lot better!
The only issue I still see is the breatplate: but only its shading. I think this instance you've given it too much strong light reflection. I think more midtones should appear over his left pectoral. But hey, the portrait is looking very solid now.

Wow, you're really starting to get the hang of metal shading, getting up there with lord bob
. Though the reflected light stream at the top of his helmet looks a bit off to me. I believe it shouldn't go all the way to the top like it does. Also I think there should be a small reflection or shadow of his hand holding the shield behind it. Maybe a little bit of shadow behind the cloth band over his shoulder too?
Otherwise the shading looks solid to me.
It's unbelievable how fast you make these (kitty and lordbob as well).

Correct. Fixed.
And no, both green, but one is much more shaded. However, they did look a bit off, so I fixed it.

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
The sentinel looks bad-ass.
I just have two critiques:
1) Something bothers me about his beard. I think it's the rather strong highlight on the right half (from our perspective) of the part thingy (the thinner half). It makes it look like it's sticking out past the other half, which makes little sense... so yeah, I think the beard needs a little more love.
2) It looks weird where his helmet meets his right pauldron. I'm not sure why, but it strikes me as odd that the helmet is layered above the pauldron... it looks like that implies the volume of the helmet overlaps with the volume of the pauldron. Though it wouldn't be much better if it was reversed... I dunno.
But other than that he looks awesome. You're really improved a lot since you first started working on portraits; it's pretty impressive actually.

1: yeah, that's true, I'll fix that. 2: the helm does overlap the pauldron o_O it's mean to be like that. EDIT: I'll wait to do any further fixes until kitty's had a say, though.

The guard and the sentinel are really impressive. Whatever the mistakes are they are pretty insignificant to me.

Always very pleasant to hear =)
The Sentinel is definitely my favourite of the dwarves so far, although the Thunderer is in a close second.

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
Just a quick note about the helm, I think the right side (our right) might be a little high? It might be just me, but it seems like it's up higher on the face than the other side. (And I guess I should say I'm not really a fan of the faceguard, but I'll keep my mouth shut. It's more opinion than anything.
)
His armor looks really awesome over all. I like how the arms and shoulders just kinda build on themselves.
