If I didn't know anything about BFW except that XJAPAN's proposition is the logo, I'd think it's a strategic game in which you have to control units from the future or from the previous century.

Thanks for the feedback. I really was just focussing on the initial font and typogrophy. Details will come next. I'll try to make the W more unique though.

Here is the Inkscape SVG, EP. Hope to see what you do with it!

Thanks!

1. Bye bye flatness! :D
2. A subtle trick with the shadows: I took the square root of the reduction of whiteness due to alpha and duplicated it, or in other words, I seperated the shadow into two halves. One of these I moved one or two pixels up and left.
3. Not in .gif format and definitely not so pixelated!
4. The W looks slightly more out of place. I may have changed it accidentally. (not likely though, I think it's just the interaction of the changes with the original shape.)
5. I forgot to apply my changes to that little thingy inside the O. also I converted the text to paths (which in retrospect may not have been necessary. Drat.)

Well, whatever you managed to do with the T you should do with the W. It's as if you stretched the gradient on the T to accomodate its larger size. As a result it does not get as dark on the edges. For the W it looks like you let the gradient go at the normal rate, which for a larger letter means it will reach a more extreme shade (the blackness).

Edit: or else you just used a different setting for the W than for the other letters.

It almost looks beveled, but it's not. It's pleasing to the eye to see it as beveled, but the illusion is wrecked when you focus in on a certain part of it. What if you did just a straight bevel? You could do it with a pixel program - no need for the logo to be a vector drawing.
Hope springs eternal.

I really like Woodwizzle's proposal. If it can be colored to look good, I think we should use it...

Here is my proposal: use the current logo. It is unique and looks pretty good. I don't see the problems with it that many of you have tried to express. Frankly, I think it looks better than any of the proferred replacements. just my $0.02.

As I said before, too much random stuff jutting out. It is supposed to look gothic, but fails. It may be unique, but unique != good, necessarily...

I think its good to try to improve things, everything else is getting overhauled for 1.0.

Here's an entry from me just for fun, on a dark background and a transparant background. I haven't decided how to stick "battle for" in yet.

Everythings on a separate layer, so if the shield doesn't work it can go :P

I don't think the lion really fits with the rest, but other than that it is pretty good.

I think perhaps the text should be moved to the center of the image, not the bottom half; that, or stick in "the battle for" somewhere. ;)

I think you shoul dkeep the style of the text as it is, bu tlayer it ove rsomething, such as the shield.

If you do make a new logo you shoud REALLY put it on a t-shirt because I'm kind of hesitant about buying somethiing with elves (Insert non-existant puking smiley here) on it.
that and make one with a unit from each faction on it.
Oh no look out its a ray gun.
You should move to avoid the rays
the rays are coming out of the gun
if you are hit by the rays
you will be shot by the rays
the rays are fast so you should be fast to
can you win against the fast rays from the gun?

I totally agree here, I want a wesnoth shirt badly but I'm not too keen of the current ones
