Ik ben een tijdje lang weggeweest.
Sorry voor mijn gebrekkige nederlands. Eigenlijk kan ik alleen maar een handje meehelpen. Het is altijd beter om basische vertalingen te hebben dan helemaal nieks. Vraag het maar als ik mee kan helpen.

Errors in translations
I have found an error in HttT. In hasty alliance (don't know if this is correct translated in Dutch haastige alliantie) at end there is a message that you receive 500 gold but only 200 is added.
For the rest the translations have good quality except the campaign RoW where the further I get into the campaign the worse the translations become.
Some lines are almost unreadable.
Don't take this wrong, I just want to inform you about it.

Maybe you'd like to help improving the translation by reporting those errors explicitely or even providing a better translation? All translations are done as volunteer work in the spare time of users so any help is welcome.

I think you are probably using an old version of Wesnoth? The string already reads "200 goudstukken" in the latest version

But it is not Wesnoth translation. It is an other website (Wesnoth is longer, but not really more difficult)

For the moment I am going to replay Klaarwaterhaven because I lost 2 oppermages there and it seems I need them very much later on.
I can report all errors I find for example on a daily base. I post them here ?
However, since the errors in TRoW are pretty obvious it may be a better idea to download the file containing the translations (http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/*checkout*/w ... o?rev=8241) and correct the translations immediately (for example with poedit) and then send the corrected file to me.

The problem with lots of translations is that they translate too much. Just like in the dutch translation of the 1.0 announcement, even the name "Battle for Wesnoth" was translated. (By the way, the translation "Strijd om Wesnoth" sounds rather ... undutch. It should be "Slag om Wesnoth")

The problem i face is that one has to know what he's translating in order to give a meaningful translation.
My translation would be:
"Anubis is feitelijk gebaseerd op de theorie van bicartesian closed categories. De syntax is van deze theorie afgeleid en is in hoge mate oorspronkelijk".
I choose "feitelijk" as translation of "essentially" because "in essentie" is almost never used in Dutch (concidered to be too formal) and "essentially" could easily be replaced by "in fact".
The translation of "is rather original" is quite problematic.
"een origineel idee" could both mean "een oorspronkelijk idee" (als in authentiek) en "een leuk idee"
The English "original" could mean "not a copy", but also "very imaginative"

But why do you think names should not be translated? If the game had been written in ancient-greek I think I would not have understood the name and would have liked it in dutch. Maybe to some dutch people english is what ancient-greek is to me. The translation could maybe be improved by adding "de": "De Strijd om Wesnoth". I don't think "strijd om" sounds undutch. A quick numerical check: in google "strijd om troje" gives 383 results, whereas "slag om troje" gives only 183 (gevecht om troje: 27, oorlog om troje: 274).

Sometimes i read dutch help guides. Then, if i want to search more data, i cannot find because my search terms are dutch.bloom wrote:But why do you think names should not be translated? Using translated names is bad for communications. Even if names are written in ancient-greek, so what? There are many many names that have no meaning but the game they refer to.
"ford of abez" and "isle of anduin" are a little arbitrary for these names could be translated rather well, though imo there is not much reason to translate.
(And again the communications: if someone is playing httt and cannot beat e.g. The Sceptre of Fire, he's seaking aid ont he forum and types "help needed by de scepter van vuur" then someone might understand, but i think most people wont)
'Strijd' is more something between persons while 'slag' is a clash of armies. Maybe use "eigenlijk" or the old-dated "in wezen"?

Ben begonnen met het vertalen van Dark Elves: A New Threat. Ik weet niet of alles zal kunnen vertalen, maar hopelijk kan ik wel een handje helpen.
