what goes against the point of his existence is a necromancer, who uses dark magic, does not get turned into a undead for doing so.

Well, I use electronic magic, and I sure haven't turned into a computer yet. There's simply no connection, in realism.

There also isn't a gameplay connection.

The only connection between 'raising dead' and 'becoming dead' is a special case: This particular world has that as a weird thing that is simply defined, because it's cool or something.

Given that the definition of the concept is standalone, it can easily be modified or specified without contradicting anything else.
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

No one has really commented on the idea where the Necromancer (raising dead) and Liches (becoming dead) are both L3 upgrade choices to a L2 human black mage. That should resolve what you two are talking about nicely.

As EP said, the whole point of a L3 necromancer(or whatever name we decide on) is to have a unit that is resistant to holy magic. A human player(or Rebel) can use a White Mage to destroy a Lich, when he is at a lower level! The lich; and all undead, have -100% resistance to holy, that means that a 8-4 damage dealing white mage does 16-4 damage in dawn/dusk, and 20-4 in daylight!(still, they do 12-4 at night)!
Sorry for the meaningless post

Sounds OK, but all it will result in is a changing of names. I've already committed the Dark Sorcerer, so basically Necromancer would replace DS and Dark Mage or something would replace Necromancer. I'm not sure if this change is worth the trouble, since I think that having Necromancer -> Dark Sorcerer / Lich is fine.
