Malin of course! And maybe that main character from UtBS, what was his name again? I'm too lazy to turn on Wesnoth to check :P
Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?

Not to make this thread sound like a broken record or anything, but I've also got to go with Kaleh, with Malin as runner-up. They both grow a lot over the course of their campaigns, for better or worse, and I got to get to know them quite well and see how the developed. Kaleh starts off as a confused reluctant leader and grows into a butt-kicking determinator. Despite all of the hardships, he doesn't give up, and he persists for the sake of his people. Even when
Spoiler:
Malin starts off as a fairly normal guy, and we can see where he's coming from when he starts down the path to madness, seeking vengeance on the orcs for attacking his home and either getting him banished or wounding his sister (depending on whether you summon any undead in scenario 1), so he ends up as a villain with whom we can sympathize. He's not just pissed off at the world. He's pissed off at the world for a pretty good reason. This gives him a lot more depth than most bad guys, and actually more than a lot of protagonists in general.
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say he has a "pretty good reason". But then, I don't think that a good reason exists. :)

But yeah, point taken. I wouldn't say he's my favorite character, but he's definitely one of the most interesting.

My favorite character exists in the campaign I am writing. I can choose him because while he isn't technically part of Wesnoth yet, it is practically a certainty that once I get my campaign finished and uploaded to the server that the devs will realize the superior quality of my work and mainline it at once.

That's what every campaign author has said at some point. :P

Except me. Just like with anything else, I feel unable to appreciate my own work, which has lately resulted in an inversion of my motivation ratios, causing them to revert into the negative zone...so I can't do anything at all.

My favourite characters are Malthasar (level 5) Raphael (portrait is cool) and Frogatto (level 3)
but you can't have seen them because I don't know how to upload my campaign (in construction)
I'll send it when it will be finished (I don't know if my sentences are good but I'm not very sure :D )
5 scenarios (1 only story) / 10 or 15 maybe...
Can you tell me how can I upload something ? If you understand me of course :hmm:

Least favorite: probably Asheviere, since she turns out to be an incompetent strategist who can't organize her guard troops in a useful fashion, resulting in the most spectacularly pathetic character death ever.

My most common complain in the IRC channels since three years ago. It never gets old. ;) Especially since I could beat the thing in medium in just 5-6 turns once. Gryphons and giant unit-wall decoys were pretty effective in 1.0/1.2/1.4. That might have become less of an affordable strategy with the improved AI in 1.8, and some tweaks that may have occurred during the 1.5.x development cycle, if I'm not mistaken.

I admit that I have never played any mainline campaign on Hard.

This Frogatto and related content, is copyrighted under an incompatible license (details under "Which part is Open Source?") that can't be used in our add-ons server, so if you are using him you might need to drop the idea.

See Distributing content in the wiki — the Add-on server section of the page should explain how to upload add-ons, and point to relevant documentation on things such as the syntax of the publish description file (.pbl).

off-topic:

On topic:
I actually rather liked most of the heroes from Northern Rebirth. They made for a very unique flavor. The white mages are immortal, Camerin is comic relief, the elves and drakes end up as allied armies and Hamel is an awesome dwarf. Does it get any better? :P
I liked Linaera from AOI, her character, strange circumstances and location, her overall mysteriousness. I liked it so much, I gave her a back story in my campaign, which is also why I like her. [/shameless advertising]
Didn't like HttT, especially Ashviere (as stated above by others.)
oops, off-topic again:
Projects: Ice Age Fun, Japhel's Journey (same link), Shameless Crossover Excuse (Maintainer), and Age of Dinosaurs!

Kind of. I got bored at the last scenario, but back then I didn't know it really was the last one. I have tried it again a few times but always quit around the end of the third scenario out of boredom.
Mountain_King wrote:The white mages are immortal
That couple has always bugged me because of that unexplained ability. If they are really immortal and you can hit them with anything and yet they'll automagically resurrect, how come they weren't around to help during future campaigns, or even after the fall of Irdya, namely during UtBS' events?! I guess there's a really tricky magic mechanism involved there — either that, or their immortality was introduced just for the sake of storytelling or balancing, implying we shouldn't worry much about details.

(Historical note: I used to (try to) play Northern Rebirth long before it was even proposed for mainline, back when it was an user made add-on for the 1.2 betas and release candidates. My greatest achievement was enduring Showdown on WinXP SP2 with 1 GB of RAM on a prescott Intel Pentium 4 with hyperthreading enabled, by playing every turn after any preceding AI sides' spanning 15 minutes each. It took me days to play, although it got better as I managed to kill enough enemies to reduce the AI's load that way.)

Intriguing character indeed, but I'm not familiarized with her since I've never completed AOI past scenario 4. It might be really worth it now that she has a kickass portrait made by none other than kitty! :P
Mountain_King wrote:On a side note, where did her [Asheviere's] portrait come from anyway?
This, long before kitty joined to define the current and unique mainline portraits standards.

My favorite character isn't from any of my campaigns. I generally reguard all my characters as being somewhat boring because I am well aware that they are shades of myself. Modfied to the point where they would be hard to recognise but I think that if you look closely you'll see that they share many aditudes and aspects of their nature.

I choose Burin simply because he is incredibly useful and provides a touch of light amusement. I can't say that there are many Wesnoth characters that really appeal to me much as people.
