I think the new Drakes are awesome, if that makes the art guys feel any better

Re: Splitting thread from luck for discussion of 1.8r1
I totally don't get this. The drakes are so obviously different from each other. The Clasher is gold and wears armor. The Burner is slate gray. Fighter and Glider are both green but they're easily identifiable at a glance. The Fighter has the war blades, the Glider is slimmer and built for speed. Each levelup on these guys is a treat, they keep getting bigger and meaner. The Armageddon Drake is amazing and he has a very cool death animation. I do have a little trouble telling the Sky drake from Hurricane but overall I would say the artwork done here is excellent.

The main complaint is telling differences between levels...
and isn't the Armageddon drake the only one that didn't get an update and still has the old image and death anim?
(that they all used to have
)

I'm sorry, but I have to say that the new Drake Sprites are MORE different than the old ones. Plus, you don't have to pay attention to the art development topics, because THESE SPRITES WERE ON VERSION 1.7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry, but if you think they look the same, you need to see an eye doctor. While I do admit they look a bit similar, other faction's units look WAY more similar to each other.

You want the units to look at least somewhat similar, otherwise you'd have hard time keeping track of what unit(s) that unit advances from/to. On the other hand, you want to make sure that the player realized the advancements are bigger and meaner looking than the previous levels. I think the new drake sprites do a good job of fulfilling both aspects.

Well yeah, but I think the argument is that they are so similar that they are indistinguishable.

Re: Splitting thread from luck for discussion of 1.8r1
An opinion I strongly disagree with. The initiator of this discussion claims they look to similar. But I honestly don't see the good in complaining about that now, those sprites took a lot of time and effort to create and animate, and I don't think they're going to be changed on account of people's claims that they're too similar (and even if they were too similar, don't you think the professional artists or other forum members would have pointed that out already?). As I said before: In what ways are they too similar? How would you suggest they be made less similar? Complaining about it won't do anyone any good, but if you can show the artists how they could make the units better, I'm sure they'd be willing to listen. Until that happens, I seriously doubt any changes will be made to the drake sprites.

And like others have said, if you really think they are too similar, make your own sprites, and if they're good, you have a chance of replacing the current ones.

I just want to say: I love the new Drakes. Screw everyone else who hates it.

This is probably my main concern. The others are fine.
And you can't really say that the 1.8 one looks less similar.
Edit: Also I'm sure there was a topic about the new drake graphics being too similar before 1.8 was out.

And that is why the Hurricane Drake flies all the time, whilst the Sky Drake stands still when not moving or over water.

But that should only be a temporary solution, should it not?

I'm not the only one who thought the hurricane drake looked like a Superhero am I?
