Ethical issues...

I don't quite see the exact claim... would you clarify? Once I commented that I disliked his map and would make an edit, noting down "Original map by Lunar2. Modifications by Circon" for use when I hosted a game.

He then said what I posted above.
I don't see a legitimate claim there...

Circon, Ummu:

Lunar2's creations (in this case map) are protected by copyright laws. His maps do not come GPL just because Wesnoth is GPL (if his map is based on some map in Wesnoth then it is derived work and must also be GPL).

If you use his map without his permission you are breaking the law - copyright infringement.

And if you are saying all this does not matter... then you are saying copyright and GPL do not matter and therefore are not valid.

I'm saying he can say everything about us, and it doesn't matter. Anyway, he has no proof whatsoever of me threatening to take his code.... In fact, I didn't. But that would also require proof, right?

Ok, so since we have a bad comment about me, and neither of us have proof that that comment should or should not exist, so should that comment stay?

If (s)he is claiming you are doing or did something bad (s)he has to proove it. If you are claiming (s)he did something bad, you have to proove it.

If he can not proove you did something wrong... let it be.

I don't know about your situation ummu. But I was there when Circon and Lunar2 "discussed" this situation. And while Circon did ask very kindly in the beginning. In the end, he basically said, (and this is a paraphrase) that he didn't need Lunar2's permission to use his map. He would just take the stuff he needed from his save file. He basically didn't care what Lunar's wishes were. He was going to force himself on that map that Lunar created.

Now, Lunar2 wasn't without blame either. He was very short with Circon. And even in the end he threatened to hack and crash any game that Circon would be in (that included his map). I'm not sure that's ethical either to threaten someone with hacking.

Anyway, it was just an ugly ugly situation all around.

Molehills are dangerous... You can trip over them. Better than mountains, anyway.
