Creeping biggerism is a relative thing. It's not unreasonable to make the sprite art for a unit bigger than a troll if the actual unit is bigger than a troll.

Wesnoth does have a bit of a problem with very large units though. Due to hex size constraints there's only a handful of pixels difference between a troll warrior and a dragon. But a dragon's never going to look right at that scale, period. IMO, it's best to get the comparative scales right for the humanoid units.

The syth has been sorted, well sort of

And the arm(i asume you mean the right), though badly done is actually bent. The elbow and a bit of the forearm is hiden behind the torso of the sprite.

This is what it would look like if you could see through the armour. But i admit i didnt do a great job at it

 .. its a he! lol

Hmm i see what you mean. The hand is a wee bit small, though the arm itself doesnt look that much out of perportion. Ill have a play around with it.

EDIT:

Ok now that all the images can be seen, im going to post the current unit tree and some additional edits ive made to two of the sprites.

To the overlord, i deited the face, horns and legs. Hopefully a little better now. To the Executioner, i made his scyth smaller, and edited his hand the right size.

Current to do list:

Incompleted
Completed

-Redo Stalker sprite from EOM
-Begin work on planning out Minotaur faction
-Begin next Minotaur sprite. Maybe the Minotaur king

Ok this is the minotaur king!!.

He is supposed to tower above trees, but due to hex size, that isnt going to happen lol. He is the big boss of the faction, and he eats Behemoths for Breakfast.

Its only a rough draft, and for some reason he looks differnt to the other sprites in the faction. I dont like the axe very much.

Oh well here is the big boy anyway

EDIT: this is the last of the large sprites. Everything else will be the same size as the grunt and overlord.

The horns are a little off - they don't look like they have a circular-ish cross-section. The wrist holding the axes is a little narrow. And i'm not a fan of the muzzle - he looks like a crocodile.

His midriff muscles look a little weird - the abs seem to stretch right across, and they shouldn't.

And yeah, he's HUGE. Making him bigger than the behemoth King is...a little excessive, perhaps.

Other than those minor things, though, and a lack of TC, this guy looks good. Keep up the good work =)

Very cool work , but I have some suggestions :
I think the skin color of the overlord should be different from the Gore one.
About the executioner , I have the feeling it's holding its weapon as if it was behind.

NEVER!!! he's the king and the king gets what the king wants. lol Nah the Behemoth King and the Minotaur king are the only OTT sprites i plan on making. they are kind of the Ancient creatures of faction, surviving many battles and crushing many foes. They deserve to stand out IMO.

Thanks for the pointers im getting onto them right away :). It was a rather quickly done sprite (a total of about 2 hours). As this is the strongest unit with the highest level i want to make him look rather good so more time and care will go into perfecting him.

Thanks :) and duely noted about both issues. The Executioner i agree with. And i didnt really do anything to correct it. Ill lighten the shaft of the weopon, to make it more visible. And the overlord i agree with as well. It was actually sort of a place holder, but ive kind of got attached to it, so ill slightly darken the skin.

Thanks for everyones input. Updates will arrive shortly

Ok did some re-work on the king and lightened the shaft of the scyth.

The king still doesnt look the same as the others :hmm:

Perhaps all he needs is some TCing. Which ill do later.

I think the issue is with the King's head. It is hard to tell what is going on in the area of his mouth. Does that black lilne represent his smile or his chin?

Also, the horn on the right side of our screen should probably dip a little at the end a pixel or two to look curved.

This is going to be a monsterous faction. 8)

Woah didnt notice that big block of balck. Its actually my error.

I create a pure black silhouette of the sprite first, then colour on top working my way down. not the most conventional way of doing it, but i find it the easiest. I just must have missed a block of black. but i think ill completely re-do the head.

you know i was thinking that for a line of mino's you could have a unit that is covered head to hoof in armor with bladed claws or something.

The anti-devlings? Would be interesting to see these guys in EoM.

The biggest issue I can really see is the size especially the leap from Behemoth to its lvl 2. The minotaur king being even bigger is creeping biggerism within the faction? Is the king a lvl 4 or 5? In my opinion scale them both a bit down.

Is the king going to be reachable by promotion, even if it's a lvl 4 and thus unlikely? Unless you're planning for a campaign, you should want to do that, you can still get lvl 4s in RPGs and most factions have one unit line that gets to lvl 4.

You may want to compare your unit sizes, perhaps to the trolls (especially at lvl 2 and 3). Remember, trolls are big.

You probably want a water unit or a flier (the vast majority of factions have one) and a ranged or magic unit because the (assumed) lack of ranged will be a major weakness.

Do you have an idea of how you want this faction played yet?

Can't wait to play this, it looks fun. :D
