GIMP has a bit of a learning curve, but it's worth it IMO. (I assume the same is true for Photoshop). There are things that are difficult or impossible to do without layers et. al. If you don't have the skills, I'd suggest developing them, again, it's worth it IMO.

There is no program that currently implements an "easier way to do it" for the features which photoshop/gimp have over simpler graphics editors. You've just gotta deal with it. :|

The only way to make it easier is to strip out the more advanced features.

In the case of Neoriceisgood, we were willing to tolerate getting .bmp files from him - a proposition which meant we had to do a bunch of work after the fact converting them to .pngs, and adding transparency. We were willing, simply because he was so good, and at the time, everyone else (except, fmunoz) wasn't. It was worth accommodating him because of that.

Shadow Master wrote:Shadow, there is one thing that you are missing here, and it is that you haven't mentioned (or I missed it?) what tools you recommend. With "tools" I mean the software. You seem to use Photoshop, and most people here that don't have the money (i.e. me) use the GIMP, but not all of us have the skills to work with Photoshop or the GIMP, so I was wondering if you could suggest any other software you have tried, what your opinions on them are, etc. bla bla. IIRC Neo used to use MSPaint, even though it does not handle alpha at all.
First page. Basicly everthing that handles png and layers.
I could work with paint but I don't want to. (Aside that it would be a royal pain in the ass.)

I worked with the gimp first . If you aford the time to work with it it is quite rewarding. I think Photoshop is needless complex. I worked a week cursing it until I could halfway do the things I did with the gimp. Some months later I can finally do more with it than with the gimp. Still I haven't used 10% of the features.

On the other side I really dig some of its features. (Especial brush tools and the pathing tools).

Up to you. If you want to do something you must invest some time. That's life. For Photoshop, there are students version, sometimes Ebay, ...
But the gimp is basicly enough.

Pain.
Great stuff as always, but I think I did not understand quite completely the anime "don't do" item.

Shall I say more?
In this case I'm even more adamant than Turin and Drakes in the Imperial Era.
It is just ludicrous. It goes down the same road like a bikini chainmail.
It makes me wanting to cook a rabbit.
Everytime I see such stuff from a good artist. Something inside me dies.

I believe that Shadow Master was just pointing out that your English is confusingly unclear in this bit:
No 2m long blade on a guy that would fall over after a light price. Mad (Who does this eats little babies too)
Specifically:
* "that would fall over after a light price" is a phrase that makes no sense in English.
* "Who does this eats babies too" is a valid English phrase, but doesn't seem to fit the context.

Your tutorials are awesome. Hopefully they'll be posted on the wiki at some point : that way everyone can see them, and we can tidy up the occasional translation slip for you, so you can concentrate on the kick-butt art stuff.

you dont understand, its totally Zen - it has not to make sense to make sense. embrace the Zen.

Well, I quite understood what he said. The problem is that I could not imagine what he was exactly referring to.

I now got it after seeing the example pictures. I guess I haven't watched, or seen in any way, anime for ages, so I was not aware of the current artistic abominations they make.

I interpret "who does this eats babies too" as he said someone who can wield such a big sword must be a giant. Only a giant's mouth is big enough to swallow a baby.

Cool. Translate for me, please. :) I'm particularly intrigued by what "that would fall over after a light price" means...

I'm not completely sure, but I interpreted it as "that would fall off after a few seconds". It could also have been "that would fall off after a light breeze's blow", as "breeze" is similar to price (more like preez, but...).

I want a dictionary for english turnarounds for christmas.
German: "Den Kerl würde ein leichter Windhauch umwerfen."
Basicly he could be overthrown by a weak wind.

I would but in the wiki if I could handle the whole formating stuff. I must see how I can dig myself into it.

There's only a handful of wiki syntax you really need to know:

Code: Select all

== High Level Heading ==

=== Next Level Heading ===

==== Lower Level Heading again ===

''italics''

'''bold'''

'''''bold + italics'''''

But if you'd rather not muck around with it, I'm perfectly happy to do the wikifying for you...
