You could call it version 37.0eugenelim wrote: e.g. Change rev 37 to 0.3.7 and start from there? It's really up to you how you want to call the first version and subsequent ones. When you feel the campaign is mission / feature complete, that would be a good time to bump the version to 1.0.
Since all the scenarios are done it is at least 1.0
If you have done a major overhaul (like with the new drakes), that would make it 2.0
Each release with major scenario or compatability changes bumps it by .1
Minor bugfixes or tweaks by 0.0.1
Maybe you're in the 2.0 - 2.5 range. But 1.0 would work just as well. I agree it would improve things to switch versioning systems.

I think 2.1 would be the best, considering it is the first update after it was updated for the new drakes (scenario-complete constitutes version 1, new drakes makes up version 2). Will implement.

I'm not sure why people are stressing about this campaign going in the official version of the game.
The main reason why campaigns have been made official in the past is for the convenience of users, since it was difficult for a non-technical user, and tedious even for a technical user, to install an add-on campaign.
However these days the campaign server has largely solved this problem. I don't think we will be adding any more campaigns to the official version of the game until we reach the final stages of preparation for 1.0. Adding more campaigns means giving more people CVS access, and this leads to the more potential for things to be broken.
Having everything in the main release has a number of disadvantages: it makes download size bigger, it makes more points of failure, and so forth.
There are also some substantial advantages for the campaign developer in having their campaign seperate. MadMax, do you really want your campaign to be in CVS, forcing you to learn how to use CVS, set up keys for it, etc? Do you really want to be subject to the Wesnoth development cycle? If you've just added some cool features and want to release the latest version of your campaign, do you really want to have to wait until the next version of Wesnoth is released before people can try it?
If the campaign server were around from the start, it is likely that no campaigns other than Heir to the Throne would have been put in the official release until 1.0.
It seems to me that the main reason people want this campaign in the official version is to give it a sense of legitimacy. That is, to say that it is a good campaign. But I see no reason for that. The Wesnoth developers, and least of all myself, each have our own personal tastes, that are really no more or less legitimate than anyone else's.
The aim of Wesnoth was to write a game which I liked, and I distributed it, hoping that others might like it too.
MadMax decided to write a new campaign that was the kind of campaign he likes, and has distributed it, hoping others would like it as well. And some others do like it. In fact, currently, it has 1020 downloads from the campaign server. This is all the 'legitimacy' that is needed.
Some others don't like it, but that's really no big deal. In fact, it's inevitable.
MadMax, you should be happy with what you've done, and as long as you enjoy working on it, you should continue. It may, or may not happen that the campaign ends up in the version we distribute. But that shouldn't discourage you.
The Wesnoth developers haven't done any lobbying to have Wesnoth included in official GNU/Linux distributions, such as Debian, Fedora, and SuSE. In the same way, I don't see any reason for anyone to lobby to have their campaign included in Wesnoth. Enjoy working on it. Make it available to people. Focus on making it high quality. These things are far more important.

Dave, I don't really want my campaign on CVS. I only proposed its inclusion in the first place because of those posts saying they would like it in CVS. I couldn't care less personally. And now that you've brought up CVS access, since I know nothing about Unix (and can't even compile CVS), I wouldn't be able to use it. And I'm not really discouraged in the least.
With releasing new versions of my campaign, most of the time I do release between versions, but with the last release, I needed the new mermen.
And if any campaign involving drakes was added, I would actually prefer it be Neoriceisgood's campaign when it comes out because IMO the plot is better, and since he made the drakes, he would understand them more.

one request: can someone make story images PLEASE!
I know this is too much to ask, but I will use anything I can get.
Positions that are open (obviously not everyone is necessary, but I can use as many as I can get):
"On the island of Morogor, a drake tribe was sleeping one day when they saw a strange sight." - show some drakes sleeping with one looking up
"Several boats were sailing toward them, crewed by humans and bristling with guns." and "The ships landed, and hordes of humans spilled out." - boats just off the coast
"Normally, the humans were peaceful, but now they were out for drake blood." - some human soldiers with mean looks on their faces
"The leader of the tribe, Malakar, decided to put up a fight for as long as possible." - a Drake Flare raising his sword
"Malakar and his small tribe put up a fight, but were no match for the armies of Humanity. Many drakes were slaughtered that day, and the rest, including Malakar, were taken prisoner. The shores of the sea remain forever red from the drake blood spilled on that woeful day." - a battlefield littered with drake corpses near the coast, a ship on shore, some drakes in chains being led by humans to the ship, and rivers of blood leading to the ocean
"Malakar and his tribe were bound hand and foot, and thrown onto ships." and "Many weeks passed. Half of the drakes died on the voyage, and the rest were badly injured." - some drakes in a ship, chained down in horrible conditions
"Eventually, the ship made landfall, on a country known as Wesnoth. They were sold to the baron Prax III." - a drake slave auction
"Mind control spells were cast on the prisoners, and they were forced to work in Prax III's shipyards for the rest of their lives." - some drakes building ships
"However, five years later, the mind control spells wore off. Malakar decided to lead a revolt against the humans before the spells could take effect again." - a Drake Worker holding his mace with a mean look
"With the seizure of Weswyt, Morogor was once again the homeland of the Drakes." - a city with drakes flying over it
"Malakar was crowned King of the Drakes, for saving his people from the hands of the humans." and "With the might of all the other drake tribes behind him, Malakar was able to strike repeatedly at the humans, and liberate their brothers still in captivity." - a Drake Flameheart with a crown on its head
"Malakar lived to the ripe old age of 133. It was rumored that a massive firestorm erupted when he died, engulfing half of Morogor." and "Kogw lived to be 47, and was a noble in Malakar's court." - a coffin
"For hundreds of years afterward, Malakar was remembered as one of the heroes of the drakes." and "Eventually, he and Kogw were deified. Their spirits remained to watch over the drakes from above." - statues of Malakar and Kogw

Hey in the Blue River scenario why is it that the Elves (On Easy) start with little gold? The the loyalists ALWAYS churn out Spearmen....and why is it that Drakes (Godlyist of all thr races) Get the crap kicked outta them by TWO Elvish Archers ON PLAINS!
not crititsizing just wondering...I like the campaign so far...and Malakar is allrady a Drake FlameHeart on Blue River...well close....
Great Campaign

Victory to those who do not fear death!
I'll give the elves more gold and reduce the human gold.
With the archers on plains, you need to hit them with melee units. In forest, elves are very hard for any race to defeat, but melee units for archers are still the rule of the day. If you can, level up a Burner into a Flare, and use leadership to boost the power of your drakes on the front line.
And spearmen are the primary anti-drake units of the loyalists, but they fall to burners with some fighter support. Using leadership is also very effective here.

I ran across something in scenario 2 with version 2.3 and bfw 0.8.8. The units have no images when I start the scenario from scenario start. I removed the campaign ifdef and the images showed up. Here is a screenshot and my save game.
Edit: I moved the binary path statement outside the campaign ifdef and that also fixed it.

However, putting things outside the #ifdef is a Bad Thing and in this situation appears to be necessary only because of a bug in Wesnoth. Please, if you see something wrong with Wesnoth, such as this situation, submit a bug report, giving all relevant information, perhaps in this situation being what the WML is (preferably with the smallest possible difference between the version of the WML that does work and the version that doesn't).MadMax wrote:I have uploaded a fixed version, which has the binary path statement moved.scott wrote:I ran across something in scenario 2 with version 2.3 and bfw 0.8.8. Of course, we won't ask you to have a campaign that works properly in none of the releases of Wesnoth, but as soon as a new release fixing a problem is available (hopefully there will be one, and it's more likely if the bug report is more thorough) on the major platforms, the WML should be updated to be the best for the current version.
