Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
I agree that LotI is excellent.
Currently I have a problem with "12: Gladiatrix - The_Reckoning". I cannot find a way to escape. It's either impassable walls or too many enemies. Did I miss something?

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
Can you specify where did you get stuck? There are more locations you have to pass through, arena tunnels, town, fortress, throne room. In which one did you get stuck?
Short information how to get through:
Arena tunnels - head north, you will be attacked by several quite deadly attackers, but in narrow corridors where they won't swarm you. Be especially careful about the succubus, she makes men unable to attack after standing next to her, better kill her with Vritra.
Town - head a bit north, then southeast, you will be attacked by soldiers, but they can't match the gladiators if they won't manage to swarm somebody.
Fortress - it will get harder, there will be some enemies recruiting, kill them as soon as possible, beware of demon infiltrators.
Throne room - a few strong enemies await there, kill them and use the purple flames for healing. Then defeat His Infernal Majesty, Emperor Abbath the First, it will unlock a tunnel leading to a forest. Entering the forest means victory.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
Hi, I really like your campaign, but I am new to Wesnoth, so I need some help.
I am playing on normal level and I am just in the middle of the second chapter. But this is my second attempt, becouse when I play it for the first time, I did not use the main characters offen and they where too waek to survive the caves in the first chapter.
So I want to ask for some advice, if there are some common units that I should level up to save some troble in the future.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
You should not neglect the main two leaders, otherwise use any units for support as it fits you. It's generally advisable in wesnoth to level up your leader and heroes-who-can't-die.gibo wrote:I want to ask for some advice, if there are some common units that I should level up to save some troble in the future.
Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
I've also found the good 'ol Healers and Tanks to come in handy so far.
Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
Dugi, I do not know if it's normal, but when I finish the chapter III, the "Nightmare" scenario, the game ends and I can not go to the next chapter. LotI version is 3.0.4 and Wesnoth version is 1.10.7.
I thought I can play chapters I to V, then I have to start the chapter VI from scratch.
Did you change this? Been a while since I played your campaign, maybe my memory is playing tricks.
Also, I do not understand the nightmare of Efraim. Undeads can not sleep, is that correct?

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
At the end of chapter 3, there is an option if you want to end or not. You probably hit the wrong option accidentally. Maybe I should remove it, there is little reason to have it there. Replaying the epilogue scenario carefully should do the trick.
About the question about nightmares, you struck me unprepared. I wasn't thinking of it.
If I think about the local lore, vampires or fexts actually sleep, because of their ability to pretend that they're humans, though they might not need the sleep necessarily (through in modern stories vampires sleep during daytime in coffins). Revenants wake up at night to revenge upon somebody. Ghosts appear during the night, so they aren't continually awake (unless they travel to Australia every day). In the wesnoth's description of one of the skeleton units, it says that the entire unlife is some sort of dream, but that might refer only to the unthinking undead like skeletons (and anyway, wasn't death described like an eternal rest for long, until the heaven and hell was brought by christianity and then as absolute nothing as described by atheists). So I don't think that undead never sleep.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
The problem is that I do not get to choose any option, for the dialogue disappears very quickly. I did not hit any button. Simply the game ends.
Skeleton's description to which you refer, can say that unlife is a dream in the sense of vague and hazy remembrance of its former life. Not a dream during sleep.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
I have tested it right now (was a bit annoying with all these save files lost due to that stupid accident), and I have seen the question quite clearly there. If you still have problems, can you append the save file from that scenario?
Well, maybe the skeleton's description wasn't the best thing to say, but the rest can be still valid.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
To be clear: the question is displayed, but I can not choose any option, because the dialogue disappears quickly (in seconds), then the game ends.
Well, why undeads would need to sleep? Vampires are a special case, they have bodies of flesh, they need to feed on blood.
Maybe they can sleep and dream.
But a skeleton is something else. A skeleton does not need to eat, breathe, drink. Why would it need to sleep? The same is true for ghosts. They do not need anything. Specifically, the needs of the body are unknown to ghosts.
Efraim is a lich, so a skeleton. A skeleton covered with dead flesh. Efraim shall eat, drink or sleep?

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
Depends. You mean that Efraim is similar to a vampire? Efraim needs to eat or drink?
It is interesting to discuss the nature of Efraim. His description says he is a preserved lich . And a lich is a skeleton. The difference is that the Efraim's skeleton is covered with (preserved) flesh. But the flesh has any functional role? In addition to the aesthetic role?

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
Vampires of Wesnoth were discussed quite a lot, because with ghouls they are the only undead that actually need to feast. Ghouls grow stronger by eating, but don't seem to weaken if lacking food, so I assume that vampires are just empowered after drinking blood and won't starve.
The main problem in this whole question whether liches need to sleep is that it is not exactly known what is the sleep needed for. Lack of sleep causes increasing health problems because the body is used to rest regularly, and these health problems can grow so badly that person can die - so one does not die from a lack of sleep, but rather due to being used to sleep. There are also psychological problems related to sleep deprivation, from which the most typical ones are bad memory and problems with concentration, and I read that it can lead to progressing insanity. All vertebrates sleep, and also sharks and other vertebrate-like non-vertebrates (sharks can sleep with only a half of their brain at a time, the other half of the brain being awake, but still, they do sleep). This implies that the sleep has uncertain psychological effects, that are probably very important. I believe that it is related to clearing unimportant important memory, that can clog the mind, making it unable to think if not cleared (but this is only my opinion).
Anyway, liches are sentinent beings, and when all the mind stuff was moved from brain to soul here, the soul needs the sleep just as the brain needs it in real life.
Also, there is a hidden dialogue part by the end of chapter 9 (you can see it only if you have discovered some things previously), that explains exactly why should some powerful undead need sleep, though it's not explicitly said (but I don't wanna spoil it).

This can be replied. His flesh is mostly aesthetical, to cover his undeath, but it also protects his bones from being easily broken and can carry some enchantments.Naron wrote:But the flesh has any functional role? In addition to the aesthetic role?
Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
I think undead in myths don't sleep, but simply don't have the power to do anything during the day, but become empowered during night. I think undead that sleep(like vampires) are simply inactive during the time they sleep. The brain controlls the body, so the brain just doesn't move the body.
Efraim is an undead, so the flesh on his bones is also dead. However, Efraims flesh is perfectly preserved, and if anything happens to it(like him getting stabbed) the souls inside him automatically restore the flesh to its former state. He won't have to eat because the body is moved by dark magic, and not by muscels.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)
Everyone's brain controls the body while asleep, and even moves it. Somnabulists can even cook while sleeping, with their eyes open and enough precaution to avoid burning. The body does not move only while dreaming, except if the dream is too strong (because of a paralysis that prevents you from moving in reality while moving in a dream). Sleep is needed by the mind, its effect on body is similar to doing no physical work (watching TV, reading a book), except that some hormones are making it rest more effectively. It is the mind that needs to sleep, and when the mind of conscious undead like liches or Death Knights is preserved, they should also need to sleep.
