Re: Some sketches
Your wose portrait is certainly much better than the current mainline one.
The cuttlefish looks really great too, but the perspective looks off; I'm not sure how to correct it.

Re: Some sketches
How about this? Better than previous because the bottom of the head can be sunken. Which one is better: ver2 (real pixelart with limited palette) or ver3 (highlights and shadows made with dodge/burn)?

Re: Some sketches
I'd say ver2, partially cause of the eye angle, but they're so big..
Like cats? I've made a whole faction of them to kick ass with!

Re: Some sketches
Cuttlefish have pretty big eyes. I'd almost say to make them bigger, oh ho ho ho.
Looking very good! Maybe have the tentacles in front fanned out a little more, though? They look kinda weird all held together like that...

Re: Some sketches
This looks excellent, no critique on this end - besides just the strange pose, like Skizzaltix said.
Re: Some sketches
Just type in google "cuttlefish" and browse graphics. First two pages would be enough. Then you can tell if the pose is strange. How do you think where I found the reference?
I think I'm going to make another topic I will place sprites. Here is chaos.

Re: Some sketches
The angle overall is too low. I'd also suggest that you check with jet before doing anything major on a new cuttlefish - I'm not sure whether he feels anythign needs doing with the old one.

What do you mean by "angle too low"? Angle of what?
I assume that cuttlefish is for grab. Probably somebody make it better than me I can still try.Fire Dragon, Cuttlefish - need some basic respriting; eternal is working on a base frame for the Dragon.

Re: Some sketches
Maybe a little, but not too much. If you wanted too you could fan the tentacles out in an attack animation.StDrake wrote:Maybe have the tentacles in front fanned out a little more, though? They look kinda weird all held together like that...
BTW your spriting is great!
Check out the FOSS game Sumwars

Re: Some sketches
I like the aspect you have given to the cuttlefish. From the version 2 and 3, I'll choose version 2 for a few reasons.
First, since its true pixelart, the compression would be better reduced (less colors used) which is always a good thing.
Second, the highlight on the v3 disrupt the nice skin coloration on the upper part of were the tentacles join the body.
And yes, visually its Terrific, the old one looks nice, but this one captures best the unit. Maybe the eye should be a bit bigger. its supposed to have the biggest eyes in all earth. (except from maybe this one which is bigger, nastier and also have hooks on the tentacles)

I applaud you for it, One of the best looking sprites I have seen so far on this forum (and it has a hard competition!)

Re: Some sketches
Thanks for input. Well I drew a cuttlefish because there is a cuttlefish monster in the game so I understood it literally.
You propose drawing a squid which has different shape and number of tentacles. There is no "squid" unit in the game AFAIK, the closest one is "Tentacle from the deep" which looks very squidish.
For now I'm going to make a series of sprites for cuttlefish. If this is accepted maybe I would make some other monsters.

Re: Some sketches
As in, we should see the creature from higher up - you're showing it from a much lower angle than thhe rest of our units.

Re: Some sketches
You mean like something I posted yesterday? With end of body pointing to top left? If yes, I discarded this because in game it would stick out of water and I wanted it underwater.
This is how I visualise defend animation (only blocking for now):
