In order to confound TSI further onto my process, here is a full sketch of the Revenant. I reserve the right to alter it as I progress.

Just awesome.

However, it would add a lot, if the rotten cloth has had some alpha transparency applied. But anyway, really really nice.

You can always use a photo hosting site like Photobucket so you can just link to pictures uploaded there and not have to worry about forum attachment limits.

Anyways, the Revenant is looking great! Can't wait to see more.
I will now resume lurking silently.

I think that your Revenant is looking really great! One small suggestion - the axe seems a little small compared to the rest of the portrait (and compared to the axes on the excellent Deathblade portrait). Does anybody else think this is the case?

Ooh, I'm really liking how his left shoulder/upper arm armor is turning out. Looks great, as does the finalized version of the deathblade. Regarding furioso's concern about the axe-size, I think it's pretty much okay the way it is, especially when compared to the sprite itself. The draug might need a bigger one, if you're willing to work on it as well.

Revenant looks great (and I LOVE seeing this kind of progress shot) but one thing that you definitely need to fix up is the helm. It's intended to be of morion design Clicky for ref and make the shield a good deal bigger - i know the size of the one there matches the sprite, and is akin to the size of a buckler model shield, you need to remember that the shields on sprites are by necessity almost always a LOT smaller than they would be IRL, simply because making them normal sized would require either awkward placements, or covering up most of the unit - which is, after all, the point of a shield ;) The axe head could stand to be a touch bigger, too, and the handle a touch narrower.

Otherwise, i like the layout, and look forward to seeing him finished.

Made some changes. I don't think I can make the shield much bigger without wiping out some interesting parts of the figure however.

I made the axe a tiny bit bigger anyhow. I wasn't completely happy with the previous size myself either, so it worked out.

As for the Draug, oh hell yes I'm drawing a portrait for that. I've been looking forward to that one for awhile but wanted to get these other ones out of the way first. I have some ideas for him that I think many people will be quite pleased with. Lets just say he'll look like a level 3.

Loosely. It doesn't need to -strictly- look like that, I just borrowed a few design elements from that as I worked on it. As long as it looks functional, I think we're good.

Woha - much new stuff going on since I last checked your thread! :)
The Deathblade turned out excellent, the insight in your process is pretty interesting and the start for the Revenant looks wicked, too!

Only his ribs don't look very rib-like (too thin and noodle-like) and I don't get the position of the shield - why could he be holding it like that? And considering the position of his shield-arm/hand it should also sit further to (our) right.

Other than that he's really awesome - my favourite part being the leather strap around his chin.

Ribs are thinner looking cause he's hunched over a bit. Still working on a good way to portray it. It's probably a simple fix, but we'll see.

Shield maybe should come a bit to the right. I have it lowered because he looks less threatening this way. He could probably swing his arm up and bat a blow to the side so he could stab someone at any time, but he doesn't look overly ready to kill someone at the moment either so he could still be used in dialogue if the need arises.

Overall the ribs are what I'm most unhappy with right now. Finding a reference isn't easy either for that perspective. Hopefully today or tomorrow I'll make the changes he needs and finish up the details so I can get the Draug started.

Maybe you can rotate this to match the desired perspective: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ ... 3b17c43658?

Due do foreshortening ribs shouldn't only get thinner but most of all their distances to each other will vary. They'll get closer the more foreshortened it is, overlapping should help also. Here is a 3d skeleton with a ribcage even more foreshortened than yours Link.

That's an interesting link! But unfortunately one seems to only be able to rotate the renders along the x-axis. Z-axis as well would be even more helpfull - or did I miss a function?

Thanks for the references. I found a few online today and think I fixed the issue with his ribcage finally.

Tentatively, this is the final version. I still need to do outlines on him obviously, but I'm just toying with extra details at the moment and cleaning some things up on him.
