All raptors (eagles, buzzards, falcons, hawks, owls...) kill with their feet. As far as I'm aware, none of them use impact of their landing to do damage.Temuchin Khan wrote:Just so you know, I voted against slam because a bird's legs tend to be fairly thin and I suspect that if it used them to slam into something they might be injured. Maybe I'm wrong, but that was the logic.Noyga wrote: It makes sense, btw i still voted for slam because it's what the image suggested to me.
The fast nimble birds, like the falcons, kill with the dew claw - the 'thumb' at the back of the foot. A falcon will dive towards its prey, and at the last moment drop the claw down so it hooks through the prey's back, and breaks the spine.
The big powerful birds, like eagles, kill by crushing the prey with their feet. When you see a falconer with a bird on sat on a big leather glove, the glove is there for the bird's comfort, not the falconer's protection: an Eagle could easily crush all the bones in the falconer's hand, glove or no glove.
If life gives you Lions, Make Lionade.
Well the thing it is not really an existing eagle, but a fictionnal gigantic eagle (even bigger than condors).
They definitely don't have fragile legs since they can land with a rider on their back.
So in this case i think a slam attack can still make sense.

I'm going to release v0.13 this week end i think :
- miscellanous fixes/improvements
- Some Dark elves rebalancing :
* better movetypes on hill and forest
* the lizard riders are more resistant and dangerous
- The Aragwaithi will now use the Eagle riders:
Well they are currently +/- like slower gryphon with a beak attack :
Eagle Rider: (level 1, advances to Eagle Master)
HP : 36
movement : 7 (same movetype as gryphons)
XP : 36
Cost : 21
attacks :
- claws 10-2 melee blade
- beak 6-3 melee pierce
Eagle Master: (level 2)
HP : 48
movement : 7 (same movetype as gryphons)
XP : 100 (AMLA)
attacks :
- claws 15-2 melee blade
- beak 9-3 melee pierce
Do they look ok ? Shall i add (or replace beak with) slam ? What would you change ?

I think it's important that that the Eagle Rider be different enough from a Gryphon Rider so as not to be regarded as a Gryphon Rider in Eagle's clothing, and I am not sure that adding a melee pierce attack to the melee blade attack accomplishes this. I like the idea of the Rider being a bowman, and I think the Aragwaith could use a melee impact attack other than that of the Warlock's staff. How about:
Rider
- Prey Crush 10 - 2 melee impact
- Short Bow 5 - 3 ranged pierce
Master
- Prey Crush 15 - 2 melee impact
- Short Bow 8 - 3 ranged pierce
Rider
- Prey Crush 10 - 2 melee impact
- Short Bow 5 - 3 ranged pierce
Master
- Prey Crush 15 - 2 melee impact
- Short Bow 8 - 3 ranged pierce

If it really would be best for them to have an impact attack, "prey crush" would in my opinion be better than "slam."Truper wrote:Rider

This shall be fixed soon with 1.13Merudo wrote:How do I download this era...it is not on the campaign server yet...

Btw i had another idea for the Aragwaith eagles weapons:
Eagle Rider:
- Claws: 6-3 melee blade
- Prey crush: 10-2 melee impact -- attack only
(IHMO Prey crush looks a little strange on defense)
Eagle Master:
- Claws: 9-3 melee blade
- Prey crush: 15-2 melee impact -- attack only
- Perhaps a third (ranged ?) weapon from the rider if Wayfarer wants to do it.
What do you think ?

Me too, so i'll change them this way.Temuchin Khan wrote:I like it.
About the possible third weapon :
I don't think it is really needed, i think the unit is fine without, but it might be cool.wayfarer wrote:I can if needed but as usual it will need time.
We'll start without, but if you want to add one (bow, sling, spear, whatever you like), i'll add it to the cfgs.

A spear is more personal, a bow more useful, tricky. (I don't like the sling)Noyga wrote:Me too, so i'll change them this way.Temuchin Khan wrote:I like it.

perhaps for the 3 level, I rarely see lv 3 units so it won't have that impact.
So here we go, v0.13.0 is released (on the v1.1.11+ addon server).
Sidenote : after something like 2 months, i just figured why my not yet finished translation in french of the Era did not work. I had a bogus textdomain in my era.cfg (while Wescamp's version was fine)
It should be not compatible with the previous versions.

I again had Wesnoth crash on me while I was playing the EE. I got the following bug report:
Date/Time: 2006-10-09 16:35:41.141 -0400
OS Version: 10.4.7 (Build 8J135)
Report Version: 4
Command: Battle for Wesnoth
Path: /Volumes/Wesnoth 1.1.11/Battle for Wesnoth.app/Contents/MacOS/Battle for Wesnoth
Parent: WindowServer [59]
Version: ??? (1.1.11)
Since I'm not sure whether the problem is with the Mac version of Wesnoth or the EE, I posted this both here and in the technical stuff forum.
