Omg,I remember this scenario which gives me hell of a time to complete.Soon I´ll have to face it in hard!
Anyway, you can use elvish fighters as cannon fodder. As they´ll mostly not die in a knight charge, unless the knight hit twice. It will lure them to attack the fighter. Then ambush him with your archers and cover the archers with a unit that have strong melee attack(they get scared of them)
If the fighter survive and got injured, move him back to heal and repeat the process. They attack you from north, west and south so you gotta have a lot of fighters to place as bait.I have an another technique that kinda work better than this one.But I guess it was just luck.

Dwarves and thieves would be better. A merman or griffon as a distraction around the lake area... Don't need any leveled units to win. Set up camp on the hills to the West with your low level units and head South with your elite loyal guys and some fodder. Wait until you have 25 kills. Then take out the southern leader. Get a TON of money for an early finish. I think being short of money would have been more of a problem.
I just played this on my 3rd time through HTTT. Wesnoth 1.1.2a, difficulty normal. I did this strategy just to see how it worked, except I put 3 loyal mermen (2 with trident and 1 priestess) in the lake to deter enemies from sneaking around the north side. Only recalls were the best loyal troops, an elvish captain I wanted to level to use in the last battle, and some level 1's with XPs. Everything else was dwarf recruits, just bought a lot of them. Guardsmen and fighters out front to take the hits. Thunderers to counterattack the horse troops after they attack (really fun especially with a leader next to them).

Spent all gold but Konrad killed southern leader so I get him in the next battle free and got my 25 kills in 15 turns for 1555 gold. I took a lot of losses, including a couple of my recalls, but it doesn't really matter with so much gold the last battle should be really easy.

I think Test of the Clans is harder when you use your recalls because a) you probably have less units and b) you are more worried about losing them.

guardsmen + thunderers + healers = dead horsies :D

in 1.02 you need either alot of cannon fodder or alot of elite units

I sent Li'sar, Delfador, 3 dwarf leaders 2 avengers, Shyde and a champion north arround the lake, Konrad, marshal, Kalenz, mage of light, grand knight, sharpshooter and 2 paladins to the south to clean up all clan members and wait other group to complete 25 kills than kill the south leader. I finished without losing units pretty fast and got a large bonus ( I had 260 gold at the begining finished with 1360 gold remaining for the next scenario). I think that bonus should be given for those who kill all enemy leaders because that is five times more difficult...

Has anyone ever won this level on medium or hard? As in - killed all the leaders?

I can't figure out a way to do it before 25 of the clan guys die. I tried gryphons and 4 silver mages and got 2 of the leaders, I've tried a strike force along the edge of the map - but even though I was running away with Konrad and and krew as hard as I could 25 clansmen killed themselves on my rear guard or the small strike force I sent to kill the closest leader to the south.

Any ideas here? I mean, can this be done? If you did it - how?

Bum-rush the closest leader with two turns of recruits and your heros. Also recruit 2-3 Mermen to stick in the northern lake. Once you have the bottom keep, recruit horsemen, Silver Mages, maybe a healer and an archer, and dwarves. You'll want a LOT of horsemen, probably around 2.5-3.5 turns worth if at all possible. Stick the dwarves on the closest hills, with a healer. The dwarves and mermen will hopefully slow down the advance without killing an unnecessary number of them. There will probably be a casualty- and XP-rich battle in the middle of the map around this time. Try to hoard your XP to a few units using ZoC to screen the ones with more XP and soften up your targets with your heros and archer before charging.

Once you get a lancer or two, send them to the bottom-left leader for the Silver-mage-assassination tactic. The rest of your guys can charge the mid-left and top-left leaders, hopefully before too many of their troops catch up. Once your Silver Mages finish the job, have them help out (obviously).

With this strat I managed to kill all the leaders but one, who was one horseman-hit away from death when a Clansman suicided onto Konrad and ended the scenario. (On medium).
