Changing of difficulty names and campaign ordering

The use of the plural third person pronoun as the gender-neutral singular third person pronoun has a history going back to the 1600's. You are welcome to assign arbitrary gender to third parties in your speech, but please don't ridicule those of us for whom the usage of "they" is a natural way to represent a third party without reference to their gender. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_they for more about this topic.scott wrote:The same people that use it's for possessive its also use they in place of he or she.
This seems awfully off-topic, by the way.
Getting back on topic, I concur with the general sentiment that campaigns should have some rough indication of difficulty. I nearly threw out Wesnoth when I started playing SotBE on default difficulty as my first campaign (how was I to know?).
I also concur that SotBE is much harder a campaign to start on Grunt difficulty (easiest) than HttT on Champion (hardest), although I can't compare the latter scenarios of SotBE since I haven't played them. When starting out with the game, I was playing HttT on hardest difficulty quite successfully for several scenarios before Crossroads and Siege of Elensefar gave me pause, while it took me many attempts to get past the first few scenarios of SotBE on its easiest setting. To this day I have not been able to beat the first scenario of SotBE on Warlord (hardest) difficulty despite a dozen or more attempts, though maybe that's evidence of defects in my play more than any real difficulty.

SotBE seems to have these difficulties: "Extremely Hard","A bit harder", and "Even a bit harder than that". It just tends to hang around just at the threshold of possibility.ott wrote:To this day I have not been able to beat the first scenario of SotBE on Warlord (hardest) difficulty despite a dozen or more attempts, though maybe that's evidence of defects in my play more than any real difficulty.
I'd say that End of Peace, Hard mode, is even harder than beating Dwarven Doors with no losses. SotBE is the only campaign in which you ever have to defeat an opponent without any level 2+ units. It was much easier when you actually had a level 2 unit with Leadership!

After that, the running scenario is rather trivial, since you can just run through, and Barag Gor is not hard, merely annoying, as you should have plenty of gold to win with if the Shamans survive. The undead scenario is good for levelling up tons of Trolls, and not extrodinarily difficult, but a reasonable challenge. Black Flag is incredibly difficult, and I can't judge what follows.
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.
Just to add my two cents: I played every campaign except EI (tested it, didn't like it) and HttT is the only one I didn't manage to complete. So far I always got either stuck due to bad decisions in former scenari or otherwise lost interest. IMO this campaign is rather hard because you've got a huge number of units to choose from and if you recruit the wrong one, you're missing something important for recalling later on. On the other hand, I didn't find SotBE to be very difficult when I played it on medium, but that was some time ago and maybe I got an easy version of Wesnoth / SotBE when I played it.

Every campaign, or every official campaign?torangan wrote:Just to add my two cents: I played every campaign except EI (tested it, didn't like it) and HttT is the only one I didn't manage to complete.
Either way, you haven't finished TDH, because it isn't complete.

I finished every official campaing up to the point of it's completion. Obviously, I haven't played something unwritten.Elvish Pillager wrote: Every campaign, or every official campaign?

Finishing every campaign on the campaign server would be a rather huge task and nothing I've got the time for unfortunately.
