Level 3 "criminal" units in the official game
Moderator: Forum Moderators
He means that when you level up some units, you suddenly realize that they can't advance past level 2. This is annoying, because you had no way of knowing that the unit would end at level 2, and you would have preferred to use the experience on units that can get to level 3.Glowing Fish wrote:?I don't feel cheated, but some of the biggest fun for me in the game is the thrill of getting units leveled. Especially in long campaigns, I like the thrill of building units up to high levels.Sangel wrote: Whenever my unit levels up once and then stops, I feel slightly cheated.
Again, i would say this is true BUT not for units that have branches and only one levels up again. That's fine, because you can know that before you select - look at the xp; if it is 0/~, then you know it can't level again.

LOL
heh its funny I ran into this thread, because I'm currently working on an era with more Advancement paths, and all advancement paths going to 3 or 4 XD, and I was currently looking for some ideas on level 3 outlaw units. I've heard of the lvl 3 outlaw unit pack, but cannot find it.

If you're lazy and target v1.1.x, you could just get your outlaws from the Extended Era (it's 1.1.x on the Add-ons server), they have 3 levels of advancement except one unit which is not in a default line.
This would also avoid contamination of the default era by [advance_from] units (which might cause OOS in multiplayer).

Making 3rd level outlaws official would be a first step to ruining the concept of 2 level branches. The day I will see Highwayman or Ranger in official line will be the day when Griphon-Masta-of-All-Hexxa, 3rd level Griphon will be soon-to-be.
3-level Outlaws? yes, but then, Knalgans should be splitted into Dwarves and Outlaws(and both of them seriously remade).

Or you could just download the level 3 outlaw pack from the 1.0 server.

I have most of the L3 outlaws fixed for 1.1.5. I just need to finish the brigand and it will be up-to-date.

I like, voted yes and stuff. How did i miss this?.
This would be specially useful for those campaigns that use lvl3 Outlaws, but change their names. We would have consistent names and my head would have less confusion, maybe even less files.
Don't make them its won faction, unless it is outside of Default Era, for now. If ANYONE can bring a wesnothian-er replacement for Outlaws, be y guest, for many have tried, and amny have fell.

It's a slippery slope. Reaching L3 becomes less impressive when more and more units are capable of doing it. Then eventually, after many such changes, you end up with a Dragonball-Z type of environment (which is fun in special cases, but not wise for the default). However, I do like the Huntsman.

WOOHOO
I've finished every Outlaw sprite, (including pirates the ocean unit) but man my head hurts now, thanks for the help anyways guys. And yes Alks I am splitting Dwarves and Outlaws and seriously remaking both of them... And all the people that think everything being lvl 3 would ruin the game, don't worry It'll mostly be me 'n my friends playing it. Chances of mainline I'm guessing are 1 in a trillion.

Hey, well, if they split into their own faction that would invalidate everything I just said. There are different levels of officialness, too. Maybe the original poll needs more options? Sounds like a cool era, BTW.

I voted no.
I think there is a logical reason that outlaws usually don't have 3rd leve. While regular soldiers are trained and well armed while outlaw units use rather primitve weapons and fight how they have learned it in some little skirmishes but not in battles.

Re: WOOHOO
I'm interested in the work that you have done. Did you know on the 1.0 server there is an era with a criminal faction and a pure dwarf faction (with extra dwarf units)?PsychoticKittens wrote:I've finished every Outlaw sprite, (including pirates the ocean unit) but man my head hurts now, thanks for the help anyways guys. Anyway, the L3 outlaw pack has been updated and is on the dev server now. Yes, it pollutes multiplayer unless you make duplicated L1 and L2 units with separate unit ids.
