Re: Merge allied turns into one simultaneous turn
This. Having to play simultaneous turns would actually slow down my play in 2v2 games, because of the additional complexity of unit placement issues. Also, as you pointed out in your first post, it basically restricts team play to pre-arranged teams. Pick-up games are fun, too.Noy wrote:Well thats really a subjective judgement on your part, and you're suggesting a major alteration to gameplay to address it. Simultaneous turns doesn't mean it will be any faster, it may actually make things worse as you'd just extend the time between your opponents moves. After playing quite a few team games in my time, one of the main causes of delay is coordination between team mates. Since your proposal would encourage players to mix their units, that would require even greater coordination time. The current system compartmentalize decision-making, pushing individuals to organize some moves independently.
From my experience I don't see an overwhelming demand to speed wesnoth up. Its actually considered a sign of bad taste if you keep pushing people to speed up the game. Moreover there is already a simple fix for this issue: the timer.
This would slow down the game in another way, too. Many allied games are fought largely on separate fronts, and the turns of players who are not active on a given front serve as a thinking buffer for those who are. With turns interleaved into one big teamturn, you may not see the moves that are relevant to you until your turn is beginning. It may not work out this way, but it could.
Also, even in a game with a reasonable timer (5 minutes per turn, say), I find it enjoyable to discuss my moves with my teammates on my turn, and offer suggestions and opinions on possible moves for my allies on their turns.
I realize that as a non-developer, my opinion doesn't carry as much weight as, say, Noy's

Re: Merge allied turns into one simultaneous turn
i second what Caphriel said
tbh, i dont see much advanatges of having simltan team play, other that you could make up a more effective teamplay with A LOT of communication.
on the other hand a lot of the "more effectiveness" is already due to the fact that an ENTIRE Team moves before the other team can act. this seriously breaks current balance
so this point can be abadoned.
the only second potencial advantage is speed.
so if you want to sacrifice balance for more POTENCIAL speed.
but in fact you woudl need to set up a plan with your team mates to coordinize the best approach, waiting for other units to move, confirm moves and all such crap.
in the end it will be just annoying to be FORCED to communicate
by now the gameplay is ok, since you can just look what your mate did and react on this, or hope your mate draws the right conclusions from what you have done.
a bit communication is still helpful of course
all in all in dont think that simultaneous moves are advantageous, instead

I would consider something like this a serious worsening of Wesnoth.
The best bet is your own, good Taste.
