Well the only bit of semi-helpful advice I have is never use the pencil tool. (At least in MS Paint.) [...] Even if I just semi-accidentally disagreed with thespaceinvader.

I think the source of the disagreement is that you use Ms Paint and TSI use Gimp. The only advice a poor man like me can do is: if you can avoid it, don't use Ms Paint. It is a simple but bad program, in my opinion and in the opinion of a vast amount of people in the net. Gimp is quite hard (people say), but once you learn it, it will make things easy where Ms Paint makes hard.

All forms of drawing are taking a 'virtual/imaginary image/scene' and rendering some representation of it.

I have enjoyed a lot the semi-philosophical, semi-technical explanation. Actually, I have learned a lot from various poster. General tips threads are sometimes great.
