Classic factions are supposed to be all one race, right?

You should go read 'The Hobbit', a mildly famous book by some obscure Anglo-Saxon scholar best known for his analysis of Beowulf-related texts. Can't remember his name off-hand, though.

Those aren't real goblins. You might as well call a dragon a goblin.
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

Goblins, see Orcs -- A Tolkien Bestiary by David Day

Goblins, see Orcs -- Tolkien The Illustrated Encyclopedia by David Day and Mitchell Beazley

Goblins, The Orcs -- The Complete Guide to Middle-Earth by Robert Foster

I rest my case.

Because this is not Middle-Earth, this is Wesnoth. They can be different race in Wesnoth, and they can fight side by side.

From the New unit: Elvish Rogue thread:

They are neutral. All current holy units are Lawful.
Lawful != Good, as Chaotic != Evil, as already discussed in other thread. Lawful, Neutral and Chaotic only refer to performance at different parts of the day, or with/without many light, if you prefer. There could be neutral or chaotic units with holy attacks without problem.

The terms goblin and orc, are, for many purposes, interchangeable.
They are basically the same damn thing. Most of tolkien's orcs were called goblins, some of the time. They were small creatures, less than the average height of a man.

Some of the orcs though - some that weren't quite orcs (bred by saruman), and some that were (the black mordor orcs) were bigger and taller than people.

Orc has no connotation to size. Goblin implies something small. Because of this, orc is often used to denote what are essentially big goblins - what people sometimes call hob-goblins.

Otherwise, as far as wesnoth is concerned, the goblinoids are all the same, dammit.

And yeah, as for trolls and orcs fighting together, [censored] - go watch that "Fellowship of the ring" movie. God's blood.

Do orcs always fight alone (let's check some classics like e.g. LotR)? Maybe orcs have enslaved goblins?

Classic != Single Race
