It could be an undead stickMirion147 wrote:Also I believe a axe like that would need a pretty large shaft. Imagine the embarrassment as the blood chilling death knights axe breaks wen it hits an enemies tough armor...Not so blood chilling with a stick in his hand.

fear the undead stick all will bow to it

Re: Portrait sketches
Orcish slayer sketch added to the first post, thanks for all the comments and suggestions so far. I'll have a go with the deathknight and redraw the deathblade when I'm feeling more motivated, and after I've drawn the last sketch for SotBE.

Slayer looks good. Aggressive but not too wound up for a portrait.

Re: Portrait sketches
The sickle/mini schyte weapon is again parallel to the canvas, which is not the best possible choice compositionwise, but what's worse, realitywise it's just plain wrong. The blade of a weapon like that should be pointing to the same direction as the lower arm of the hand holding it, but now the directions are perpendicular.

Re: Portrait sketches
This maybe just a wierd fantasy from me but i always imagained him with two syths one in each hand and he holstred the other while he was throwign daggers. Anyone else think this or just random me?
Re: Portrait sketches
The sarge is quite right. The way he is holding it now he would wind up smacking his enemy with the side rather then doing some nice slicing and dicing.

The death night is cool.

In otherwise very dynamic composition, this makes it look like the axe is detached from everything else.
Um... I really prefer it this way. Remember that the death Knight has L3 Leadership. He doesn't need to just swing his axe, he needs to rally his troops as well. What better banner than a big wicked looking axe?

Re: Portrait sketches
I think you misunderstood me, my point was about a very fundamental issue of composition, to which the actual usage of the object in question is rather irrelevant. That is, I would have made the same complaint if it had been a banner instead of an axe.Remember that the death Knight has L3 Leadership. Re: Portrait sketches
No, I understand what you are saying. I just disagree. The only way you are going to see the etchings on the side of the axe is if it is facing you, the viewer. It's like an actor in a movie looking directly into the camera: normally it's a bad idea, but in certain scenes it serves the purpose of connecting directly to the viewer.Sgt. Re: Portrait sketches
The problem is not with the axe being parallel to the canvas but that it doesn't look like it's attached to the shaft. I think.

Re: Portrait sketches
The slayer looks awesome. I think I will have something t5o work on when Iget home.
On that note, I'm not back on the interwerbs for good yet - I have a computer just for this evening. I'll be downloading some stuff to work on until my course starts, not to mention getting on with Howgarth as well.

Re: Portrait sketches
Thanks for the comments once again, I'll fix the axe and probably try to figure a new pose for the slayer. His weapon (it's a kama by the way) seems to be a somewhat distinctive feature, so I'll try not to make it face away from the viewer.
And that won't happen until I feel like drawing these.
Which won't be soon. I don't recommend trying to colour these until they're done, unless someone wants to fix em themself.
