ctr+C/V would be cool anyways..

im using http://www.translate.ru (if u can understand russian, you can try to see how it translates from german to english and back).. im not sure if it is better than babyfish? but when i tried it from english to portuguese, my ally told me that i have great portuguese lol.. maybe it was a joke, but at least he understood me.

short phrases idea is great, i wanted exactly the same, but it requires more codings than just ctrl+C... but would be great. I think it is exactly what wesnoth needs...

It has an English version, you simply click on the British flag.

I've tested it and at least from English to Russian and back it isn't that bad, of course some words have multiple meanings. It could, however, be a problem in discussing strategy as those words would probably be the less-common variations. In addition, this appears to be a translator that's more limiting than usual (almost like a demo), others allow multiple paragraphs and some even give "back translations" so that you know when you're translating into another language that the meaning wasn't lost. No translator is perfect though - someone even made a forum game about how Babelfish can mess up common quotes.

I do agree, though, that copy should be allowed in the chat log and in the game lobby. This is a serious limitation that is handy for not just translating. With copying you can copy links someone gives you, parts of conversations you've had, etc.
