On a different side...

I like the post count. (Now you're all looking at me funny.)

I use post count as a secondary gauge for status -- the first being the quality of the post.

I think that, in general, a high post count is a sign of status. (Anyone with 2000+ USEFUL posts has my undying respect.) Also, coupled with a join date, it tells me of the person's dedication/staying power.
A high post count is like money... the person who posted useful things made their "money" building the family business. They generally are people you can trust. The person who posted trash all over made their "money" in shady buisness deals, or something. They cannot be counted on for most things.

some forums have "quality points", that mods can give if the one gaining it has done something contributive to the forum (or in this case, also to the game). but here it would probably be useless, as the contributor/developer/regular/translator/whatever is already a status sign.

on a side note, i think more members should get avatars ;) a recognisable avatar that doesnt change much in time would already show if this is some newb or oldie. (i dont know why ppl like dave, ivanovic, sgt. groovy and others who post a lot dont have one...)

@Troy, the whole world is conspiring against you :o

I put the above barb out, in part, to see who would respond. So far, I know that troy and drakeblademaster are guilty of being forum thugs. (I also know troy knows it. Anyone else like to post that they feel insulted?) :D

Some people (including me) just like statistics even if they are not of direct use for them. Thus I want the postcount to stay.
