you know, what I missed in HttT was that Konrad could recruit only on human unit, the horseman, and the Knight in the last level.

The Test of the Clans would be much more playable (and much less loadable) if you could get a few cheap, humble, utilitarian spearmen. Elvish spearman, perchance?

Other than that, one can just hope that the enemy does not get too many lancers.

In campaigns, I found the charge useful against almost any unit left on bad terrain, as, by day - that's when you strike - most foes do little damage in return, mainly if you avoid charging ones who have piercing attacks. You can gladly charge even grunts by day, provided you can finish them off, he'll do one strike in return.

Against players, the main advantage of the charge is not attacking, but threatening to attack. Your opponent will think twice before placing any unit on open ground. And if he does not think twice, you can earn some trophies with your lance.

This restriction is coherent with the story.

And even if you don't have spearmen, you have dwarven guards wich are almost as useful (but slower)
